Marian begins educational venture T Eager freshmen of M 1955 M a u r e e n u1nn G e o r g e Broesche Ann Far rell Herman Cul m e r a n d P a t Davldson anxlously scan the1r new books on reglstra 'E t1on day 4115- In four years Marxan Hlgh School has progressed from a dream m the mmds of deslgners to an 1nst1tut1on bearmg the stamp of approval of the state accred1tat1on agency Maman took 1ts fxrst mfant step on August 15 1955 when Reverend Wendelm I Nold D D b1shop of Calves ton dedlcated the school to Our Blessed Mother 1n honor of the Maman year On September 8 1955 Slster Mary Rosarxa and her twelve member faculty together Wlth Rev erend Vlncent Thompson C S B as guldance counselor met 1n assembly w1th the 275 freshmen and sophomores to usher m the 0ff1C1al school year Senlor students nostal glcally recall such occaslons as trudgmg over temporary plank sldewalks selectlng the team s nlckname and elect 1ng the cheerleaders In December Marlan was presented Wlth an Amer1 can flag whlch had once flown over the natlons capltol Meanwhlle tradltlons m the form of the Chrlstmas Cantata a sprmg prom and bl monthly sock hops were establ1shed by the Student Councll The Colts football basketball and baseball teams fmlshed their 1n1t1al seasons w1th an ac cumulatlon of losses Fall of 1906 brought the total enrollment to 368 students wlth a mneteen member faculty Home and school relahons were cemented bv the organlzatnon of the PTA headed bv Nlr Alhe Bobb1tt Colt gndders putt1ng to good use the experlence gauned the year be fore came up wlth a 5 3 7 season and an all state quarter back Gene Ceglelskl Theu record lus Pat Montalbos wmnmg of the Kmghts of Colum us Texas Hlstory essay contest helped to establlsh Nlilfldfl among the other h1gh schools of the clty The flrst lssue of the yearbook went to press durmg the year Q all YSBAVF- V' Spectators watch Wllh pnde as the Amencan flag, donated by the Kmghts of Columbus, 15 raxsed above Maman 111 1955 5 0 O 0 O O 0 . wa., '51 I . Late i January the Marian Honor Socie was established with a 9073 averag over the semester and recommenda tion of the faculty requirements fo membership. Winding up their sec ond season, the Colts won the AA di vision championship of the T.C.I.L Baseball Tournament and brough home Ma1ian's first athletic trophy. Marian's third year saw the instal lation of a new principal, Sister Ma Ioan, and a new guidance counselor Reverend E. A. Heyck, C.S.B. Th year was memorable for the forma tion of the first senior class, organiza tion of the Senior Council, an opening of the west wing of th building to accommodate the SOZ in crease of enrollment. Marian students sorrowfully re ceived the news that Mr Delan Ryan a former teacher at Marian had died in Korea The announce ment of Marians accreditation ch maxed the 1958 school year Many firsts marked Marian s fourt vear among which were the orgam zation of the Pep Club the publica tion of The Marian Echo Semo Appreciation Dav the pett1co'1t foot ball game and the alumnl Home coming dance Three Colt footbal plavers Willie Tmnell Scooter Schil laci and Felix Reynosa were name on the Catholic Al1D1str1ct Team v-4 hp? if aw Congratulitions ire in ordtr siys Nlotlier Xlrry Sebastiln to Sister Nliry om is they reid the letter of iccreditition iw lrclcd Nlirian H1 h 7 . , . . .
