Qarcufard Our Holy Father designated 1954 as the Marian Year to honor Mary, the Queen of Heaven and Earth. In this year Marian High School was founded. As the first Catholic co-educational high school in Houston, Marian opened its doors on September 1, 1955 to 283 Freshmen and Sophomores. 1956 saw the junior Class added with an increase in enrollment to 368 students. In the two years of operation, Marian has be- come the symbol of Christian education, lead- ership, and sportsmanship. Realizing that Mary has been pleased to bless us with her loving care, we have chosen the name of our yearbook, the DIADEM, meaning crown, in honor of the Virgin Queen. We sincerely trust that Mary is pleased with our efforts-with this hope we pre- sent our first yearbook with its theme .... THE QUEENSHIP OF MARY
