Q the department of o o 0 I administration, under the care of sister mary antonette, has the function of co-ordinating academics and all social functions. the problems faced by this adept staff every day are not small. among the difficulties tackled by the administrators of marian are budgeting, searching for good teachers, and improving the curricu- lum as the high cost of education rises. this year miss bergstrom and mr. o'hara moved out of their cramped quarters in 206 into spacious offices in the latest addition. as counselors they help our students in their college and career choices and give information concerning entrance requirements and scholarships. they also plan college night in order to let students see pres- entations and ask questions of representatives from their future college. an innovation of the guidance department is career day. this informative event takes place during school hours and various professionals present facts about their occupation, what it entails, and the back- ground needed. career day was enjoyable and successful for both students and faculty. .r- l r ,Il l.. ' Q . originalit and creativity develop during three courses at marian. the artistically inclined student learns the techniques of art. at various levels he may draw, paint, carve, design, letter, weave, or potter. his products may include pic- tures, rugs, mobiles, or vases-in addition to a know- ledge of art history. mechanical drawing techniques prepare the student for engineering. in this course he develops manual dexterity and the ability to express himself graphically. home economics consists of two courses, clothing and foods. in the former, girls learn sewing-machine skills, proper dressing, and patienceg in the latter, stu- dents learn the basics of food and nutrition. the home economics teachers Ctop leftj include mrs. pietro, sister mary janice, and mrs. I 01 revivification of marian's track team is to the credit of coach bob voss. piecing together a club after its dissolution is no easy task. it is uphill work and somewhat discouraging when the team record is 0-7. however, there were a few moments during the season in which 'the runners rejoiced. bruce mclgugan and jay steinmetz broke marian's mile record. dave heniff finished third in the conference for the 440 yard run, while bob chisholm, named most valuable team member, took fourth in the conference in the 880 yard run. bob parro sprung his way into fifth in the conference for the high jump. once again, bruce mclgugan turned it on in the high hurdles for mariang he finished fifth in the conference. even though the records might not show it, our boys were out there fleetfootedly running yards and miles for marian.
