Mr Karl Flickenger pointr our an inarcurale angle to Frank Santan. f No one as yet has had a perfect teacher. Yet, each and every Marian student can remember a particular quality he has admired in a certain instructor. Perhaps with this quality the teacher gained that feeling most important in a class-respect. If the students respect a teacher, he can more readily communicate with them. As Dean Gaffney said, He can combine the right amount of humor, homework and teaching to make the class interesting. This class interest is often the basis on which the good teacher's students judge him. Perhaps he uses unusual materials or different approaches to present monotonous but necessary material, or possibly he varies class discussions to draw out his students. Maybe he simply possesses a vibrancy, or awareness that keep his class interested because they know that he is in- terested, thereby fulfilling their need for a good teacher. However, a good instructor's class isn't necessarily easy. In fact, as Pat Gallagher observes, his class can be the most difficultg but in a good teacher's difficult class, you learn! Extensive homework assignments and challenging tests do not create an impossible situation, if the teacher understands his students. In fact, by these means he often instills confidence and maturity where there was none before. ' Louis Gonzalez summed. it up when he said. You know yo1i've had a good teacher when you can look back at the previous year and think of all the things you've learned, and you have some pride in your work and progress. 8 E-, K Mr. Terry Flanagan drums our a fact abou! participle: for bi: rerbman flax: 'lA goocl teocher mokes his students feel intelligent even if they oren't.
