Guidance department invites speakers In its second year, the guidance depart- ment has ottered immeasurable service. Mrs. E. Urbik and Sister Jayne were available be- tore, during, and atter school to give assist- ance to all who knocked at their doors. This year group guidance was given to each class in the auditorium during the regular guidance period. Films were shown and guest speakers were presented. Subject matter tor the up- perclassmen dealt with college lite, scholar- ships, careers, as well as personal well-being. Underclassmen's periods touched on such subjects as high school lite, extracurricular activities, and personality development. Representatives trom various universities, colleges and career schools were available to answer questions and explain the tunc- tions ot their institutions to interested sen- iors ancl juniors. Pamphlets, books and other types ot literature can be tound in the ever- growing guidance library located in Room 2I6. English department broadens its scope Humanities panelists are Connie DelVento, Kathryn Anleitner, Daina Baras, Jurate Kupcilcevicius, Jurate Jasaitis, Diane Dunlclau and Birute Gudas. This year, the English department widened its scope in depth and content by ottering a diversity ot scholastic opportunities loe- yond the standard requirements. Field trips were organized to various lectures, dramas, concerts, and operas, which enriched the students' backgrounds and complemented their academic studies. Team-teaching, under the supervision ot Sister lvl. Henrietta, continued experimental- ly tor six senior English classes. ln the human- ities course, interested seniors analytically explored the humanities: philosophy, drama, music, and art. Specialists ot various depart- ments lectured in these tields. The depart- ment also otters iournalism, speech, and dra- ma classes which are very popular. This year a special group ot sophomores was selected tor the study ot American Lit- erature in place ot the regular second year course. These sophomores will proceed to talce English Literature in their iunior year and complete their studies in senior year with a humanities course. By expanding its experimental and elective courses the de- partment incorporated the classical with the empirical, and the practical with the cultural. K1 Sister M.
