The new year dawned brightly at M.C.S. and to- wards the end of Sept. the new class of Freshmen began to wriggle uncomfortably in anticipation of initiation. These plebeians conquered thei speech with which they honored their uplenipotentiarlesnz dressed in shapeless feedbags, reversed clothing, and toeless socksg and wore signs reveal- ing their identity, with a great deal of spirit. The Seniors were host to a party in honor of the Fresh on October 3, to show acknowledgement of their sportsmanship. Proud Display Senior rings, hexagonal in shape, surmounted with a deer head emblem, and molded in yellow or two-tone gold with onyx or ruby stones, were seen on September 27, when they were first worn by the Seniors of M.C.S. This spring, the students of M.C.S. enjoy two vaca- tions. One lasts from March 7- ll and the other week is May 2-6. Time usually allowed for Easter vacation will be given these two weeks. This change breaks up the long per- iod during which there is usually no rest. Good Friday, April 8, school will also be closed in honor of the Christian holiday, Easter. Senior Excursion We, the members of the 1955 Senior class, left Margaretville early Sarurday morning, April 30 to explore New York City and Washington, DI cl we had purchased tickets for the Saturday night per- formance of Seven-Year Itch, Can-Can, Fanny, Teahouse of the Au ust Moon, and Pajama Game. The Seniors enjoyed the plays which they attended. For some it was a wonderful new experience for others an increased enjoyment of an historic form of entertainment. After six exciting days of inspiration in these two famous cities, we arrived safely home, on May 5, tired, and anxious to get back to school with the exciting closing chapter of graduation ahead. - 4 Laugh and the class laughs with you, but you stay after school alone. Nine. Our first baseball game of the season started off with a bang as the opposing team drove in five runs in the first few innings. M.C.S. had no runs as they began the last of the sixth. Two runs were made to bring the score to 5-2. Then in the last of the seventh three runs were made. What excitement! The crowds shouted! Our fellows went into the last of the ninth with a tie 5-up. The bases were loaded. The count on the batter was 3-2, and our team had two outs. The pitcher began to wind up, threw the ball to the wait- ing batter. He swung and the ball went sailing over the treetops. That's it. A victory for Mocnsoj 9'5O This is entiggly a fictitious story, but it could happen. 'Coral Balletn , One of the social high- lights of the year is the Junior Prom to be held on May 2? The theme has not yet been de- cided, but the decorations are always beautiful. Last year's prom, nString of Pearls,' was well attended. Diane Pereira, queen, and Tom Trowbridge, king, will crown this year's couple as the climax of the evening. Sl i , Onward and Upward The Moving-Up-Day assembly was held today, June 10, the last Friday be- fore final exams. This program ls the genf .eral Student Association meeting ot the year. The officers of the association present their reports for the year. A high point of interest comes when George Hillriegel announces the newly elected officers for '55-'56. The new president adjourns the meeting. Com encement Weekend Plans The last two ceremonies, the two which mark the close of the end of Margaretvelle school days for the seniors of '55, are Baccalaureate and Commencement. The Commencement ceremo- ny takes place Monday evening, June 27. After the Salutatory, the speaker, George Ryder, former president of the board of education in Goble- skill and a member of the governor's commission studying educational finan- cls, delivers an address. The chorus presents sev- eral musical arrangements after which the Valedictory is presented. Mr. Shaver presents the seniors and Dr. William Kavanaugh, president of the Margaretville Board of Ed- ucation gives them their diplomas. I, Jean Herrick, leave my horsetail rings to anyone who needs them. I, Eloise Fairbairn, leave my ability to go steady to Nancy Long. We, the members of the Senior Class, leave to Mr. Shaver, the faculty, and all the underclassmen a carton of Kleenex to dry their tears over our departure. Being of sound mind, we now leave this last will and testament and hope that it will be faithfully executed. witnessed by Betty Sanford 51+ Tbm Trowbridge Tom Storey --- Jean Herrick - Lynn George -- Bob LaPorte -- Dick Fairbairn Bob Russell -- Ginger Snyder Andy Rosa ---- Barb Scott --- Lauren Davis - Betty Close -- Dick Elliott - Eloise Fairbairn - Fran Hosier ------ Ida Dougherty Ginny Wolcott f' XAXQ pn op esy: He is now head pharmacist for Rexall pharmaceutical experimental laboratories.
