Coronation of Shorthorn Football Queen Mary Jack Edwards was crowned Queen of the '51 Shorthorn Football Team in a ceremony held in Hunter Gymnasium on the night of November 6. David Larson, representative of the Shorthorn team, escorted the Queen and placed the crown on her head. Before Her Majesty’s entrance the royal court was assembled. ‘T'he fanfares, played by trumpeters Lucilla Polanco, Sophia Chavez and Robert Gutierrez, were followed by the announcement and entrance of the dukes, duchesses, princes, and princesses. Allen Heacock and Danny Herrera were the announcers, Mary Garrett played the piano while each pair of courtiers entered, Linda Ledbetter and Margaret Dumas preceded the queen, scattering flowers in her path. The crown of purple velvet and jewels was carried on a white satin pillow by Mickie Douglass. The queen’s purple and white velvet train was carried by Marvin Corder and Lanny Clelland. Queen Mary Jack’s golden throne was encircled with autumn leaves on a purple background and was placed under a purple and white goal post. The Queen and her courtiers were entertained by dancers, who presented a ballet, “Autumn.” The ballet was directed by Mrs. John Mead,
