As other departments make changes to meet the needs of our students entering college, the physical education department is doing the same. To meet these standards the physical education department has taken a big step towards educating Marengo boys and girls in intelligent basic in- struction for healthful and youthful living. The student is tested so that he or she may engage proficiently and intelligently in hours of re- laxation. With its vast improvements over pre- vious years, students now enjoy touch football, soccer, basketball, volleyball, badminton, wrestling, weight lifting, angling, golf, bowling, softball, gymnastics, and track. Athletes are not made in a day! An athletic program is as good as the people who direct it and the students who par- ticipate in it. It is the result of a thorough physical ed- ucation program that begins with basic skill instruction at an early age and carries on until graduation. MRS. RUTH AHRENS heads the girls' physical education department and sponsors the girls' basketball team and Pep Club. MR. HAROLD WILKINSON is the head coach of the Marengo football squad and track team. He also teaches history and economics. MR. ED BADGER is the head coach of the varsity basketball team and also acts as assistant football coach. He teaches American Government and geography. MR. DON HART coaches the summer base- ball team and is assistant coach in football, basket- ball, and track. He also teaches driver education and industrial arts. MR. WARREN OLSON is the head coach of the girls' basketball team and also teaches general science and world history.
