To The Class of 1957 A When you receive this year-book there will only be a few days of school left before you graduate. Have you developed and acquired a hot idea, the kind of idea which energizes a person, in contrast to a cold idea which one may hold intellectually and yet still do nothing about? l suppose every human probably wants to succeed. Everyone probably recognizes the worth of hard work, application, faith, and persistance in order to achieve a goal. Yet many of us never get around to doing anything about these ideas. Why? Psychologists tell us that these ideas are lying cold in our minds. We have not heated then to a white hot heat by the intensity of our desire to succeed. Until we make up our minds, until we develop a hot idea, until we have nurtured an all out determination to carry out this hot idea, we simply will not do much more than just wishful thinking. Yes, we must mean business, we must have an intense desire to be creative. A person who has this intense desire says, I'll make out somehow no matter what happens , the person with a defensive attitude says fearfully, I hope nothing goes wrong . The creative attitude springs from a faith in the powers within us, that intense desire or inner urge that makes for success. As Gilpin said, lf it be right, do it boldly--If it be wrong, leave it undone . I hope that you have acquired this creative urge. If not, I sincerely hope that you will soon acquire it.
