1 X 'lil To The Class of 1954, Upon the receipt of this year-book, you will have all but graduated from the Community High School. You will have had the privilege, granted to all American Youth, of attend- ing one of many American high schools. ln no other land in the world could you have had such a privilege. lt is part of your A merican heritage. ' Here, most of you have spent the greater portion of your waking hours for the past four yearx. These have been turbu- lent years-'the 'Cold War , the Korean Conflict, compul- sory military training, and many other momentous events have been passing into history. Nevertheless, during all these disturbances, the real, the true, the important task of lor ever moving forward in life has been steadily and surely accomplished. You are now young men and young women: the future is yours to do with, to a large degree, as you will, ' Many of you may elect to go on to college you may elect to ftnd immediate employment or you may elect to initiate a busutess oi your own Other: of you may not be so fortunate You will have graduated nor knowing what to do or how to do rt You may have many talents and yet not find yourself lf this be the case you are indeed unfortunate But you need not be so for you are living in the age ol opportunity oppornrnity which is always knocking at your door The idea that opportunity knocks only once is not rue in America Farture hall' successes and unfortunate events may be used as stepping stones to greater and more worth vhlle things If you should happen to start out on the wrong track have gumptlon enough to stop and do something useful that you Joy doing Just a word ot' cautlon while you have the choice of many things which you may do and while America wel comes youth no matter how many laurel: you have gained in hlgh school don t don t walt for someone to come along to make you be a success It just doesn t happen that way You have to be your own sell starter!
