Class HlStOIy As lt has been the custom of each clas to 'nake known its hlstory we the class ol Z0 shall narrate our somewhat lntrlcate hlstory Although our hlstory may not be of much Interest to the pubhc nevertheless It has a rmg of happmess and the memories of good trmes for the Class of Z0 The class whlch entered M H S 1n I9l6 as Freshmen numbered forty eight 1-low we dreaded the thoughts of berng scrutlnlzed and rrdlculed by thc upper class men Nevertheless we took heart ln hand and thought of the days to come when we would be bemors Cheer for the Freshles for they wlll advance Our flrst class meetlng bept 25th was directed by Mr Gardner at whlch we selected our class colors purple and whrte Richard Countryman Presldent Mar garet Pringle becretary Abner Kelly Treasurer and Mlldred Goodrlch class reporter were chosen for our l'reshmen class officers Mr Dahlberg was chosen as our advrsor We worked dlhgently so that we could overcome the rrdxcule of the upper class men On anuary 25th oe Patterson lnVltCd us to hls home for a party which was a huge success As Mr C.-ardner had forbldden the hazing of the Freshmen we arrlved home safely much to the dlsmaj of our friends the upper classmen When we returned as Sophomores ou class had dwmdled to thlrty erght Our class offlcers chosen for this year were Margaret Prlngle Presldent unlor Kelly X'lCC Presrdent and Mildred Csoodrlch Secretary and Treasurer Mr Alexander was chosen as our advlsor lhls year contained many soclal events A weenle and marshmallow roast 1n Swagers wood a party at the home of Kenneth ohnstone a slelghrlde out to Leo bulhvan s whlch was greatly enjoyed ln spite of tlpplng over and bobs comlng off the runners Perhaps the oyster stew was the chnef cause for the enjoyment Later rn the year Ruth Dalby gave a party Everyone who attended reported a Good time especlally Alex who hadnt had anythrng to eat srnce noon and very httle then Two other parlles were given one at the home of Mary Grover the other 1n Svxagers a dull boy can be made to read All play and no work makes ack a dull boy tne subjects taken up this year were somewhat new to us The geometry class worked hard with theorems hypothenuses and angles whlle the Ancxent Hlstory Class learned of the old L.-reek Mythology lhe Botany class enjoyed a trlp to the wood early ln the bprmg with Miss l:.lberg hngllsh Correctlon week was found mterestmg as well as helpful to the hngllsh class whlle the Bookkeepers worked hard makmg thelr ac counts balance We certainly were a jolly bunch 1n our unlor year which must be acknowledged by the other classes Vlfe had lost ten of our members but four new ones had jomed us thus making an enrollment of twenty n1ne Our offlcers for this year were ohn Vvllson Presldent Abner Kelly Vxce PYCSldCHf Mary C-rover Secretary and Treas urer Our advisor was Mxss Holroyd Our partles were numerous The flrst was a weenle and marshmallow roast ln Swager s wood Adelbert Coon next entertalned the class A mock wedding was given wlth Ralph Carmack as the brlde Leo Sullivan and Ruth Dalby opened their homes to us On Feb l8th Grace Lowe enter tamed us lhe class wrll always remember her lnterest ln It though she was not a member of rt at that tlme lhe umor Prom on May Znd was the brg event of the year Weeks before It was glven the poor unlors attempted to learn a few new fangled steps under the dr ectlon of Professor Leo bulllvan The Prom was a real success for lt was well attended and everyone enjoyed rt Un May 23rd Frederlca Wllke entertained the class We had a good tlme ln splte of the fact that the Seniors made way wlth the strawberrles About this time ohn Wllson left school and Abner Kelly took hrs place as Presldent lhe next party was a plcnrc ln Swager s wood Miss Holroyd mvlted the class to her home rn Genoa on une 7th We shall never regret acceptmg the mvltatron lhe last party of the year une l4th the unrors very gracrously mvrted Continued on Page Sixty eight tr tw utx tx . Class Prophecy lVlany years have passed srnce I saw my classmates rn a group as we drd rn scnool at the class meetrngs partres and dances Ihe other nrght I went to bed tlrrnkrng of my past school days I fell asleep after many hours of wonderrngs Soon ' passed through the door leadrng to pleasant dreams and found myself rn a beautrful room frlled wrth people and Adelbert Coon our class musrcran and presrdent tandrng on the stage speakrng on the toprc Work and Honor Wrll Follow Hrs tone of xorce had not changed and rt remrnded me of the trmes when he spoke to the Senror class of hrs wonderful plans At the left of the speaker sat Ruth Dalby takrng notes on the subject whrch she rrrtended to read and explarn to her ILngIrsh class She was an Englrsh teacher rn the Hrgh bchool of thrs town When I was gorng to the statron to rake the electrrc car to my next place of dreams I saw Alfred hrchler appear at the trcket wrndow ready to sell me a trcket and rnform me that the car was on trme Often trmes rn my school Clays he would say rt was on trme although we had to wart at least frfteen mmutes I he car had at last arrrved and upon enterrng I saw a young lady beckon to me Ar second glance I saw rt was IVIary Glov r our vrce presrdent and ambrtrous lrttle worker We had a llttle chat and she told me she had recerved the posrtron of teach rng rn a country school As I stepped from the car at the next statron I saw Frank Hrggrns srttrng rn a Chandler tourrng car He was there to meet hrs wrfe whom he expected on thrs car He had marrred and was workrng on a farm I greeted hrm wrth a good handshake md extended to hrm my hearty congratulatrons From here I walked down the street seekmg a drug store I entered one rntendrng to buy some torlet artrcles I was very much surprrsed to see Werner Hlnz our class stenographer comrng to wart on me I-Ie sard to me Although my harr looks whrte I work wrth all my mrght I was about to leave the store when I accidentally bumped mto a man Upon rrst glance I saw rt was Kenneth ohnstone commg wrth a basket of eggs to be exchanged for grocerres He was the owner of a poultry farm and was gettrng amng famously wrth the help of hrs brother As rt was gettrng near dmner trme I made my way to the home of my grrl lrrend In the evenrng she asked me to go to church wrth her and I gladly consented VVe entered a beautrful adorned church and to my astonrshment saw Clrfford Krtchen tandrng rn the pulprt just ready to begrn hrs sermon entrtled Mortalrty After lrstenrng to hrs grand advrce I felt pleased to thrnk our class contarned a person wrth such talent After my frrend and I had arrrved home we trred to amuse ourselves by read mg the newspaper I am fond of the story and Joke page and as I glanced at the love problem sectron I saw the name of Herbert Kutzner our romantrc character rn the class play Ihe broken hearted lovers were askrng Herbert for advrce Thrs partrcular person asked what he should do when a grrl gave hrm the cold shoulder lo thrs Herbert replred that he should never desparr He had not yet grven up hopes among the femrnrne sex and advrsed thrs person to keep up courage assurrng hrm that he would garn therr attentron lhese were all the acquarntances I saw and heard of that day The next mornrng my frrend wrshed to show me some of the beautrful places rn the crty After we had walked a long drstance we became thrrsty and decrded to have some rce cream We entered a confectronery store and seated ourselves at the table In the drstance I saw a neat Iookrng clerk whom I thought I knew Upon her frrst glance at us she recog nrzed me and came over To my surprrse I saw she was Emma Nulle our class Necretary and lreasurer bhe was engaged as the candy clerk When leavrng the store we saw a crowd of people surroundrng an ambulance about a block away lVIy frrend and I were currous and hurrred to the spot A man had been hrt by an automobrle and two rurses were dressrng hrs wounds One of the nurses looked very famrlrar to me I was very much delrghted to hear rt was lContrnued on Pave Srxty srx lr Iw rrlx llrr r , - A , ., Q 1 , -I - - .I - n - I . s Q - , 1 C , ' v - - 2 . - v . . .
