The two sponsors are Ms. Diana Brown and Mr. Gerald Cardwell. The Math Club meets monthly, with different speakers. Three topics covered were supermarket UPC codes discussed by Mrs. Brown, Mr. Cardwell talking about Halley's comet, and Mr. Winford Groves and rs. Lynn Feaster spoke on probability. Officers include President - Michelle Adams, Vice Presidents - Julie Bennett and Shane Freeman, and Secretary - Misty Freeman, Beginning in the spring, the math club meets in conjunction with Mu Alpha Theta, a national organization to recognize scholarship and promote interest in all fiel s of mathematics, Marcus' chapter of MAG is one of 1200 in the nation. An initiation ceremony was held for the 70 out of 88 who accepted memberships in MAG. The qualifications were 1JFour semesters of college preparatory Math coursesg 2Ja current enrollment in an additional college-prep math courseg and 3Ja semester average of 85 or higher in regular classes or an 80 or higher in honors classes. MLB ' tame Steve Pierce, Billy Uuirin, Paul Stevenson, Mike Rune, Steve McCready, Cathy Kroll, Kelly Mallory, Kim Butler, Shilpa Amin, and Julie Bennett The History Club at Marcus gives a perfect op- portunity for its members to compete in con- tests, participate in taking field trips, and benefit from lectures presented by guest speakers. ln addition, the members are given the chance to enhance their historical knowledge. ln December, the club took a trip to Fort Worth to observe a court case and talk with attorneys. On Feb. 1, the History club was a part of the Mock Trial. Trophies were awarded for first and second place teams. The first place team then advanced to the Regional Competition where it placed third. A participation in the North Texas State University state-wide history contest was another project. To receive honorable mention or better is con- sidered to be a great achievement. This group met the first Friday of every month under the guidance of sponsors Ms. Jennings and Ms. Killian. History Club 155
