BOYS' BASKETBALL After a well fought scrimmage game with Hartford, the Wildcats felt primed and in shape for the first game of the year at Centerville. As the game started and pro- ceeded through to the half, it looked very discouraging for the boys, as Centerville had a- bout a ten point lead at half tirne. We tied them and finally won in the last second of the game as Quinn made a free throw to win for us 3l-30. After this start, we felt ready for anything and took Bloomingdale and White Pigeon in quick succession. Then came Edwardsburg the toughest team of the season. Here was another thriller when at the last possible second, Poulsen sunk his free shot to win 28-27. After two such games as Edwardsburg and Centerville, we were pretty tense and lost our next encounter to Cass 29-51. After our first defeat, we came back to win over Bloomingdale 42-21 and felt ready to meet Cass the following Friday. As it turned out, it was to be our third thriller of the year and we won by a score 48-47. This tirne it was a fast breaking play from Adarns to Rimes to Kirby who tipped it in to win. Our next game was to be at Edwardsburg. We gave up that game 44-35 due to the absence of Poulsen, and came home a pretty dis- couraged bunch. We ca.me back to lose to White Pigeon 34-32. Six of the first string boys thought they would take a half day off and went to the annual pie-baking contest at Dowagaic. Mr. Jensen, our Superintendent, suspended the boys from the following game. Our next garne was with Climax, and Rimes and Poulsen led the second squad to a near victory, 41-38. The next week, with all the boys back, we trounced Gobles 67-16. Centerville was next and they were out for that garne, but with the loss of Schrnidt, we didn't do so well, but still came through on top with a 35-26 victory. Our next encounter was with Gobles, and with Schmidt still gone, we won with a score of 49-24. As the annual goes to press, we have one more garne to play in addition -to the tournament.
