The 25 year reunion of the Class of '61 is over, but the awesomeness of the event will always remain. For one very brief weekend, for the 52 classmates that attended, we were miraculously thrust back in time 25 years. This time it was different, this time we were reuniting as adults. It was the final chapter to a long story with a very happy ending. As the weeks and months have passed, I have received cards, notes, letters and phone calls expressing overwhelming emotions brought on by this event. All agreed that they felt closer to people that they hardly knew or spoke to in high school than to anyone that they have met in the 25 years-since. Everyone admitted apprehensions to one degree or another about coming, but come they did and with great elation that they had. The thought of what they would have missed had they chosen not to attend was unthinkable. One amazing fact that stood out clearly for all to see was that the cliques and status barriers of high school were gone forever. Time is a great equalizer. Everyone now stood on even ground and never again would feel socially beneath any of their fellow classmates. Regardless of the personal or professional path any member of this class chose, each and every one was successful. Not one classmate failed the really big test of life that could never be taught in any classroom or learned from any textbook. The big question Is there life and happiness available to all after high school? , was answered correctly by everyone and it is YES!!! This weekend I felt suspended in time. The burdens of the moment were uplifted, events of the past 25 years were blotted out, and unabashed friendship abounded. Nothing else in this world mattered, except being together to recapture the hope and enthusiasum of our youth, and to revel in the joy of seeing how our classmates have developed themselves. The reunion was a necessary catharsis which was long overdue. In school we competed for grades, honors and the affections of one another. Most felt slighted by members of their peer group in some way or have themselves slighted others, and have for the past 25 years needed confirmation of acceptance by the group. The reunion did just that for us, as we redis- covered what a great bond of friendship we share. Barriers were down, hearts were open and most felt confirmed by the weekend. It was a magical time which we'll not soon forget. This weekend provided the understanding that the group whose acceptance we've craved for years does indeed embrace us with open arms.
