1954 PRIZE POEM MORNING GLORY by Barbara Parsons Ah' How qulet 1S the early morn' How sllent 1S the r1s1ng of the sun And sllent too the op nlng of the blooms The growlng of the trees from day to day God s handlwork Come walk w1th me along the sandy shore Before the world awakens from 1ts sleep I want to see the beauty of the lake W1thout the 1ncoherent human crles D1sturb1ng me I wonder 1f the Indlans of old Stood here to gaze and marvel at the v1ew And longed to palnt 1ts splendor as do I But no one can No man can sketch the golden warmth of sun The clear cold water lapplng at the shore The mlnnows dartlng anxlously about Or dragon flles 1n rap1d frenzled fllght Golng nowhere If every member of the human race Could stand upon thls sandy stretch of land And watch the waklng world wlth reverent awe Then all manklnd would know the love of God There would be peace A joyous calm that trlumphs over str1fe A Holy peace to soothe the soul of men As constant as the currents of the lake As normal as the crylng of the gulls As everlastlng. . , . . Each year the Junior Class sells Christmas Cards. The money received is put towards the trip to New York which they will take when they are -1--1 Seniors.
