Nearly Two cenTuries ago all The acTiviTies oT The Town were car- ried on wiThin a Tew TeeT oT iTs doorsTep. From The nearby har- bor men seT ouT on voyages ThaT were To reach all corners of The globe. Today The house sTands as a reminder of These men, The original old Marbleheaders, whose deeds have become a parT of our rich heriTage. This heriTage is a parT oT boTh The pasT and The TuTure oT each oT us. We have grown up sur- rounded by TradiTion. The old churches, ST. Michael's and The Old NorTh, AbboT Hall and The SpiriT of '76, and ForT Sewall are Town landmarks. Race Week compeTiTion, a symbol oT Mar- blehead's greaT seafaring his- Tory, is an imporTanT parT of each oT our summers. The door- ways oT many of our homes are guarded by The TradiTional ea- gle. YeT now we prepare To leave The Town and iTs TradiTions, To seT ouT on our own voyages. Some of us, unlike The old-Time seamen, will never again call Marblehead Home PorT. Each of us, however, has made The heriTage, hisTory, and TradiTions of The Town our own, and, in preparing This yearbook To be read, reread, and passed on, we hope To conTribuTe our parT To The heriTage of Marblehead. 2
