No dessert? BARBARA Problems , Problems , Problems. Cfafid .jwlidforg In 1949 the school doors were unlocked and Mrs. johnson welcomed I9 smiling boys and girls into the first grade. The planning and giving of a party in our first year was the beginning of our guest for knowledge. Mrs. Waldstein saw us safely through the second grade in spite of some minor difficulties. When Craig, Kirk, and Bob were sent home separately for fighting, they outsmarted the teacher by waiting be- hind Mr. Trafton's house. Merlyn chased Sandy on the ice and she fell and broke her anklep this was an unusual welcome for our newcomers, Evelyn Bennett and Virgil Cope. Ed Nygaard joined us in third grade, where we bid a tearful farewell to our teacher, Mrs. jeppeson, who was replaced by Mrs. Hartman. In fourth grade Sandy moved and so did Gary, much to Evelyn's dismay. This did not stop the ardent young lovers, however, for they carried on a lively correspondence. Our teacher, Miss Kolarich, and the class were happy to welcome David Bockelmann as a new member. In the fifth grade our teacher was Miss I-Iogge. Kirk was quick to enhance our reputation of being an unruly bunch. A bewildered Gary Rosene and Morris Larson took their places beside us scrubbing the schoolhouse walls with steel brushes. - Imagine Sharon and Sharol Bjorklund's consternation when they joined us in the sixth grade when Darlene Clauson welcomed them with a shiner. Mrs. Benson gave a good many things, but she couldn't take credit for Darlene's shiner. Having Mr. Beckel as our first male teacher was pleasant for us, but we feel it was perplexing for him, in as much as David and Alice were promptly given a thousand word theme for feuding. Lelland Nation was our latest addition. Our high school memories would fill a volume. We will never forget our parties, picnics, and the banquet we gave for the Seniors of 60 , not to mention the thrill of graduation. In the ninth grade we were happy to welcome Sandy back along with our newcomer, Chuck Egeland. This year Morris found the top of the ticket booth his only refuge from the heckling group. Driver's training was really a problem for three classmates in our sophomore year. Alice had trouble stopping at intersectionsg she would either roll through or throw everyone on the floor. Gary had his problems, too. I-Ie couldn't turn around on the road without going into the ditch. Craig's trouble was that shortly after he got his permit, he rolled a car, and he no longer had a permit. Our junior year will always be remembered as a year of hard work. First, the magazine sales, and then our banquet with our theme, Ebbtide. Last but not least, our long awaited senior year, which included a party at Fullenworth's for the sen- iors. Even though many of us are glad to be graduating, we will never forget all of these memories. As we are locking the doors to high school, we are unlocking other doors to our future. Cf... The dinner will be served at 6:30. This was the invitation to the dinner held in honor of our tenth year after graduation. All of our class were there with the exception of Bob McGowan. He was unable to attend as he was in Cuba leading guerrilla troops in an attempt to overthrow Castro. Ianice helped her mother serve the wonderful dinner. Ian and her husband live on a farm and are happy raising baby-beefs. One of the members who came the farthest distance to attend the dinner was Kirk Ienkinson. He caused quite a sensation when he came wearing his parka and high top boots. He is an architect in Alaska. He has a big job designing igloos. During the dinner, Darlene showed a very deep interest in the food preparation. She is now teach- ing home ec. in good old Marathon High. She always liked it so well when she was in school. Following the dinner the customary gab fest was held. We were very honored as we had the President and First Lady in our company. The first lady will always be remembered for her famous giggleg she is the former Alice Mae Peterson. We also had several other celebrities in the group. Two of them were famous television stars. Ed Nygaard told us that he had been filling in for jackie Gleason and Chuck Egeland has replaced Charlie Weaver on the Iack Parr Show. Our sports celebrity was Craig Okerberg. He is now the star basketball player for the Harlem Globe Trotters. We all mentioned how Connie Rassler seemed to resemble the role she played in the one-act play in her senior year. Connie is the town librarian of Marathon now. We just couldn't get over the fact how her role became such a reality. She even wore her hair the same as she did the night of the play. Lelland Nation is now the personal hair dresser for Tex Rafton. My, that name sounds familiar! Barbara Benson is the personal hair dresser for Tex's wife. Lelland and Barb are thinking about com- bining interests-- but are proceeding cautiously. The twins, Sharon and Sharol Bjorklund were at the dinner too. My how those girls had changed! Sharon had received her P,W. CPreacher's Wifej degree. She is now the mother of twin boys. Sharol was telling us that shortly after graduation she had bought a motorcycle and had been racing with it ever since then. As a matter of fact, she had to leave early, so that she could get plenty of sleep for the big race the next day. Merlyn has been leading a very interesting life since graduation. He is the only man in the WAC's and in his spare time he is a Girl Scout Leader. He was telling Virgil, who seems to be having a great deal of trouble with women, that he should join the WAC's'i Virgil has been married two times since graduation and is now Consideringa third venture. The lucky girl this time is Tuesday Weld. Evelyn and Sandy were busy talking over the days when they were young. They both live in New York, however, they were not aware of the fact until tonight. Evelyn is the supervisor of an Old Maid's Home and Sandy is the mother of six girls. Morris Larson is kept very busy too. He trains penguins for Kool cigarette commercials. Dave Bockelmann went to AIB in Des Moines after graduation and took up accounting. He is now an accounting manager for his own firm of Gymnastics for Women. And letst but not least is Gary Rosene. Gary had really changed in looks too. He is now 6 feet tall and he must weigh all of 250 pounds. He had a cute little black mustache and he was puffing OU El Clgfifl PfGCfiCHllY all SVGIUHQ. We will refer to him as Mayor Rosene from now on as he is the Hewmayor of Marathon. The story started when Wilbur Maxwell decided to go with Hercules Nelson to visit his Aunt Mary. The boys were terrified to find that Uncle Bob had recently become a mortician. They were heading for home when they dis- covered another guest whose funeral was pending. About that time Wilbur spotted Celeste, Herc's cousin, and Hercules got acquainted with Nina, the deceased's granddaughter and immediately they decided to stay. The boys got set to solve the case of Mr. Quigley, the very much alive corpse, who was pretending to be dead in order to trap the person who tried to do away with him. No doubt everything would have en- ded peacefully if it hadn't been for Wilbur and Hercules. lt took Frankie, the little sis- ter, who was interested in mystery stories to solve the case.
