OUR VICE PRINCIPAL MR. KEN CRONQUIST WAI, K Congratulations, America, on your 200th birthday, and now we em- bark on a new beginning--the third century of our nation . As I reflect over this new beginning, there are several that come to mind at lVlaranatha during our past school year: a new freshman class, new teachers, a new schedule Cseven periods a day, ughll, new class officers, a new homecoming queen and princesses, new school plays, and, of course, a new sport, CROSS COUNTRY. What have all these new beginnings meant to us? They certainly have provided us with fun, excitement, suspense, and a sense of achieve- ment. But the greatest satisfaction of all comes when we hear of a new beginning in Christ. The Bible speaks of a new beginning in Christ as old things passing away and new things coming . lVly desire for the class of 1977 and our entire stu- dent body in this new century of our nation is to focus on the things to come as we engulf ourselves in Christ and His VVord .

OUR PRINCIPAL MR. BILL MCKINLEY I II I u I m 1 X ,- f 6 Q ?,,.,t..- , '-ff. 9,4 ' .i . N .- I fi REACHING FORTH The theme of this year's PATRIOT is A New Beginning . Nationally, our bicenten- nial has propelled us into the beginning of our third century. Politically, this year is the beginning of a new Presidency. For students every year is a new beginning, one notch higher on the educational ladder. For Seniors Commencement means the beginning of an en- tirely new phase of life . For some of our students, there has been a new beginning spiritually, for during this year they have found Jesus Christ as personal Saviour and begun a new life in Him . Every year brings new people, new ideas, new challenges, new opportunities and even new problems into our lives. God uses each of these to mold our lives year by year into His perfect plan . He has many more new be- ginnings for us in the years ahead as He pre- pares us to become the person He wants us to be . Therefore, let us forget the things which are behind us, and continue reaching forth for the things that are still before us and press toward the mark for the prize of the high cal- ling of God in Christ Jesus. iPhiI . 3:13-143 ,1f Jan
