PRINCIPAL MR. BILL MC KINLEY Fac ulty-Varsity Game Thinking. Js.,4,..-p-suv-Huw! Welcomes a student. The year 1976 is a special year in United States his- tory as we celebrate the 200th anniversary of our nation's birth. A sense of patriotic pride, which has been absent in recent years, has returned. People are being continuously reminded that even though we are a nation, made up of imperfect people, we still enjoy greater freedom and material blessing than any other nation in history. As Christians, we should es- pecially thank God for this great heritage. A major theme for this year nationally as well as the theme of this yearbook, is the SPIRIT OF '76, This patriotic spirit of two centuries ago speaks to me of sacrifice, dedication, loyalty and responsibility. These are certainly qualities which need to re-em- phasis at this point in our national history. It is the purpose of Maranatha High School to instill these qualities in each student, so that the Minutemen of this generation will show the same quality of citizen- ship as the Minutemen of the Revolutionary Era. We must not forget that there is another Spirit who also demands our sacrifice, dedication, loyalty and responsibility, and that is the Spirit of God. Our devotion to God should far exceed our devotion to our country. The highest goal of Maranatha is to produce students whose love and loyalty to God takes precedent over all else in life. The Spirit of God and the Spirit of '76--both should have a place in our lives. As we place them in the right perspective and keep our priorities proper, God will bless both us and our country.
