rv-st ff' Special Educators Fill Need For Unusual Help Special programs continued to be an important part of Maranals curriculum. Marana had Special Education to aid students in learning skills. The special educators devoted much of their time to helping the exceptional students of the school, who had learning difficulties. Some of these students found a full-time place on cam- pus when the construction class completed building be- came their classroom. Many special learning needs were met in separate special courses as well as within regular programs designed to build self-sufficiency skills. Also, some of the Special Education students proved an impor- tant campus asset when they worked on various cafeteria jobs during lunchtime. Participation in this special pro- gram increased this year and the school was proud of its student-aid program. l. Special Education aide, Yvonne Miranda, helps a student put to- gether a quilt in Home Economics. 2. Ms. Lambertson listens attentati- vely to Teresa Carper as she reads her book aloud. 3. Psychological Team Offers Personal, Career Ai Counseling was abundantly available to Marana stu- dents. Students seeking career information found aid in the guidance office and always found a counselor ready to discuss anything with them. School psychologist Bill Cal- kins was on hand to lend help with personal problems. Mrs. Graham kept Opportunity Hall open for a cooling off, re- evaluating stop-over. l. Mrs. Graham keeps students busy and counseled in Opportunity Hall. 2 Mrs. Douglas helps a student decide what course of study to take. 3. ' l .. Diversified Occupa There were a lot less jobless students at Marana due to the DO program. Diversified Occupations QDOJ attracted the attention of Marana's job-seeking students and pro- vided them with work inside and outside the school setting. Jobs included butchering, food preparation, horseshoeing, delivery work, mechanics and maintenance. Students worked during the hours they were not attending classes and received credit through the program. DO, in combina- tion with its business-related counterpart, COE, formed Marana's cooperative education program. l. Mr. Hawkins discusses his program's offerings with potential custom- ers. 2.
