Coach How- ard Sanders in his first season molded the team into one of the best in the district. They won the Suburban League Championship, losing' only to Hitenour in league play, took second in the Green Division at the Normandy Christmas Tournament, won third place in their own Regional Tournament after being seeded ninth in the St. Louis District. The Leaf's offense averaged 59 ' 4 points a game with their high game of the season being against Fer- guson as they scored 80 points. On defense, M.R.H. held their opponents to 41911, points a game. Bob Sparky Harris was the team's top scorer with 287 points and made the All Suburban League's First Team at the end of the season. Coach Sanders will have two of this YQQIIJS regulars back next year, Bud Brutfee and Jack Pirrie, who together got most of the team's rebounds, and finished second and third in scoring respectively. This year's H team, though they didn't have too good a record, ought to supply the varsity with sev-- eral good boys next year. -V i:i:.::ei:i7.4 nAskl:'l'u,xl.l. With nine returning' lettermen the team had a good foundation, but wasn't too deep in reserves. M.R.H.'s strong battery consisted of Leon Poole behind the plate and Norman Journey on the mound, but a weak defense hurt them in most of the games. Jerry Klenke, Ralph Lang, Leon Poole, Hay Radcliffe, and Marvin Phelan gave M.Il.H. a power packed lineup. The B team coached by Bud Wallach had a fine sea- son, and will supply the varsity with some good boys next year. l'AR'l'lAI. 11034 liASl'IllAl,l, Si' I M.R.H M.R.H M.R.H.- 0 M.R.H.-11 M.R.H M.I1.II.- 8 X ,K ll!I'l'Y l!1Sl'Ill.iI.l. In hockey the junior team was undefeated winning all three of their games and the varsity squad won two and tied one of their five games. The sophomores and the seniors were both undefeated in basketball, each win- ning their four games. The girls' var- sity was also undefeated winning their thrce games. The girls did equally as well in volley- ball with the senior team winning both their games, and the varsity going un- defeated in their three contests. The girls' final sport of the year is softball, and they are expected to have a strong team. At the close of each season, the girls chose the girl they considered the most valuable in that sport. Molly Godwin was picked in hockey, Gloria Stuart in basketball, and Margie Riley in volley- ball. The throne was a giant helmet with the traditional blue and white streamers adorning the sides and ceiling. The dreamy music of Buddy Kaye's Orches- tra added to the already romantic at- mosphere. The Leather Lungs, our boys' quartet, provided entertainment at the intermission. The retiring queen, Shirley Johnson, surrendered her cov- eted title to Jane Terry, who, amidst the applause, began her reign as M.R.H.'s football queen. Jane's court consisted of Nancy Kinter, Freshman maid, Karal Ruegge, Sophomore maid, Charlene Schiffner, Junior maid, and Carol Clark, Senior maid. Wa .4 o .Honor I xrulwl' liiiixil llxirurgr. The throne, an open flower, was placed in the northeast corner. Huge multi-col- ored butterflies perched saucily on the walls, while pastel streamers hung over- head colorfully emphasizing the Spring Serenade theme. The retiring queen, Theresa Rose, took her place at thc throne. To the strains of Embraceable You, our popular Phyllis Bessler walked down the aisle and ascended the throne to begin her reign as 1954 Queen of the Junior-Senior Prom. This prom inaugurated one of the most successful spring social seasons at M.R.H. in years. l JJ of ADHD? n 1 fmorii iilx ii I 1 llinic IJLI P1721 . l lfim' I: l7r:in laiuritsun, Molly lioclui . lizirlmm Rurgge, llnil 21 l'lg. lfifru 3: Xlc' ju Scliuulmril, 1'li:irlcm- Srl 'tl'u'r, lim- llumliig, ': ' - ', 1, 5 '1 W3 '-A, D 1954 QLEFN mf, my 6,6 20l'ge Sweef 80 1954 BACKWARD DANCE KING EGCLWQPJ 9610-C2 Let's go to the circus seemed to be the cry of the many who swarmed to the annual Backward Dance sponsored by the G.A.A. On May 8, we entered the gym and be- held trees lining the sides, stars glis- tening above, and a real old-fashioned surrey being used as the throne. The band entertained in our own version of a park pavilion, and a refreshment stand was located at one end of Cen- tral Parkf' Each maid and esquire walked down and stood under a lamp post which had been arranged in a slanting angle on each side of the sur- rey. Then our king and queen, Ralph Lang and Molly Godwin, climaxed the coronation by climbing into the surrey and receiving their crowns. Everyone, especially the senior class, will hold this prom as one of his fondest memories. al J all Jqlllfecf ix Hes lu H mah Scott line Terr ii 1 nr r J C irol fuso 9 1 my en ri no wr 1 weet 1 me in 1 If Q lun del Cin so Him' I: l'l llis is , 'z . .' , ,z y. lfiftv .'.'
