The retiring queen, Miss Nancy Rice, slowly arose and surrendered her throne to the new queen, who surveyed her court with a smile of pleasure. The Queen and the four special maids -Shirley Obernay, freshman: May Gil- bert, sophomoreg Betty Bernard, juniorg and Marion Myers, senior-carried huge bouquets of lovely rosebuds. Everyone had a wonderful time danc- ing to the music of Buddy Kaye's Or- chestra. The entertainment was provided by Gene Fields during intermission. Girls checking coats, pinning on corsages, paying for tickets, and even helping the boys out of cars and across the streets, if their dates were real- ly taken seriously. If you haven't already guessed, the occasion was the eighth annual G.A.A. Backward Dance. The night of April 29, 1950, will always be a memorable date to all, as a little strange and bewildering, but fun! Those most affected were Rich Reimer, who was elected King by the girls of the G.A.A., and the following Jacks: Paul Parham, senior: Bill Weisenfels, junior, Bob Pir- rie, sophomore: and W. H. Ridings, freshman. The setting was Arabian Nights 1 and the decorations and Floor show were so effective that one almost believed a quick rub of Aladdin's lamp would pro- duce a giant genii!! P h R g en for an Ce May 6, 1950-what a wonderful night to keep packed away in our memory books. Soft lights, vivid colors, dreamy music, and light laughter all blend to- gether for the background of the annual Senior Dance. First, the spotlight picked out the re- tiring queen, Miss Virginia Andrews, and then the six maids - Barbara Schild, Nancy O'Nea1, Jean Godwin, Margie Conner, Mary Ellen Shaw, and Margie Stetzkamp.
