REVIEWING THE PAST A need a v1s1on prayer and men who dared launch out lnto the deep resulted 1n the opemng and estabhshmg of the M1nnesota Confer ence School ln 1888 Thus the seed of Maplewood began to functxon under the pr1nc1palsh1p of Professor C C Lewls It was conducted ln the basement of the F1rst Enghsh Church rn Mxnneapohs where four teachers endeavored to tram between G1ght'w and one hundred students each vear Expandlng roots and branches demanded more room so a hotel bu1ld1ng 1n Anoka was rented and transformed 1nto the Mmnesota Conference School for sex eral years under the leadershlp of Professor Van Klrk as prlnclpal At that txme no thought was gn en to graduatlon GXGFCISSS and the awardmg of dlplomas The school was ln sesslon only a few months each wlnter because of the farm work and also because of the Colporteur Instltute ln the sprlng When students f1I'11S1'16d the1r courses they took the Northern Umon Conference examxnatlons and the regular State of Mmnesota exammatlons Manv promlnent workers ln the cause of God are among those who attended th1s school 1n the early days of 1ts hlstory In 1904 the Mmnesota Conference purchased a tract of land near Maple Pla1n and the Mmnesota Conference School became Maplewood Academy Otto O Bernstem was the fxrst prlnclpal H15 faculty num bered f1VE W3Vl6 D Tubbs Carollne Hopkms Mrs O Bernstem Lena Rosenthal and H J Sheldon Elder S E Jackson was the conference presldent Over at Hutchmson Mmnesota a Lutheran college had been conducted day Adventlsts for a Damsh Norweglan Semlnary In 1928 It was de clded to d1scont1nue the Semmary as a college Maplewood Academx was therefore moved from Maple Pla1n to Hutchmson where the two schools were unlted under the name of Maplewood Academv It became the new home a large tree w1th ever wldenmg branches fo1 the youth of Mmnesota Professor Alun W Johnson was the last prlnclpal of Maplewood Academv at Maple Plam and the flrst one after Maplewood was transferred to Hutchmson Smce the eventful year whlch saw the umon of the two schools, many students and faculty have passed 1n and out of Maplewood s doors some to servlce 1n home fxelds of labor and some to carry the torch of Truth to other lands Everywhere Maplewoods sons and daughters re member the1r Alma Mater StI'1V1l'1g to uphold her standards brmgmg honor and pralse to her good name thus helplng to glorlfv the name of Mr Foght A W Johnson God lh the earth PARADE OF 1904 1907 1912 1914 1919 1921 1922 1925 1927 Otto O Bernstem H J Sheldon R W Brown Robert Hare R Anderson J Sheldon C Palmer J Man' A W Johnson 1907 1912 1914 1919 1921 1922 1925 1921 1932 PRINCIPALS W J McComb Davld Gulbrandson Helm Bxeber Peters Jarnes Smlth George P Stone B G Butherus 1932 1933 1935 1941 1945 1946 1947 1948 1952 1933 1935 1 1945 1 1947 1948 1952 H ' LL 13 ' .1 ' 3 for several years by Mr. Foght.
