We shall reap what we sow, be it pleasure or pain The seeds that we scatter bear fruit once again. The cycle is certain, the season is not, And often the sowing is almost forgot. But sure is the harvest, and joyous the yield, When seedlings of kindliness brighten the fields, When petals of graciousness cover the ground, And peace is the fruitage the sower has found. --Malcolm Schloss - 1 2 - 'illldi SE l0R CLASS 0FFlCER .f .. Varsity Club, Football Baseball THE SAGA of the CLASS 0i l952 As historian of the graduating class of 1952, I shall endeavor to emphasize those factors in our class history that would appeal to you and will remain forever embedded in our minds and hearts rather than a study of progress through four years at Mapletown High. On September 5th, 1948, members of Mapletown High faculty were standing in the halls wonder- ing what changes might be in store for the com g year. Suddenly they caught a glimpse of something new and strange hudd ed togrether in mute embarrassment and anxiety. These were the members of the Class of '52, Excited and adly frightened, we were taken to the auditorium and divided into two classes. There isn't much else to recall about the first day, but believe me--better days were ahead. Mr. Mihlik and Mrs. Minor were our home room teachers, and now it can be told what happened to Mr. Mihlik. The poor man could only take it for half a year. One activity period our class decided to start the fireworks. Arnold Pyles placed a firecracker neatly under the teacher's desk, then innocently blocked his ears. Mr. Mihlik asked the reason for the action, but before Arnold could answer--the desk blew apart. Mr. Mihlik was later found in the hall. By the way, Arnold is now a medic in the United States Army in Korea. We will close our freshman year with only this thought in mind--don't do as we did because now you may get the big bang and feel the working end of Mr. Smith's paddle. And so we journeyed into our Sophomore year, the girls taking one road and the boys another, with Mrs. Johnson and Miss Dally as home room teachers. Among our more interesting experiences of that year was a field trip supervised by Mrs. Johnson. It was in this year also that we had the Poison Candy Caper which is still an unsolved mystery for M.H.S. We would like to ski our Junior year--we are a little ashamed of our actions. lt was in this year that our class was dividedp andxtrouble began to brew, We did a lot of growing up during our Junior troubles and had a grand ending for that year with the first prom ever held away from M. H. S. It was a huge success and quite a thrill for many to go to Paci's--a beautiful club for a prom. Junior Class of- ficers were--President, Betty Jean Neino, Vice President, James Wagner, Secretary, Richard Pshockg and Treasurer, Billy Kelly. Our home room teachers were Mr. Taylor and Mr. Billingsley. And now for our Senior year--last and most pleasant of all, We sensed from the beginning that our senior year was going to be something different. We felt sad--yet it has a hap y sadness. Knowing it was the last time to don that football uniform, but thinking of the games well piiayed--the last cheer to yell, but the echoes not far away--and the last walk down the hall with that teen-age romeo. First thing! we had a new thrill--P.O.D. It was administered to us by Mr. South who was also our home room teac er along with Miss Titus. . It was not all smooth sailing--five of our beloved members fincluding myselfl were expelled from this institution of higher learning. But after due process of the law we were reinstated in good standing. Our class would like to thank Mr. South for utting up with our corny jokes, but I guess it was only air since we had to put up with his. Probably time most exciting experience of the year was the meeting of the Senior boys and the Freshmen Girls . In fact many of our boys care so much for the girls t ey are considering a Post Graduate Course. And now our history comes to a close--in the years to come we may pass out of the memory of a few of the boys--but the girls--they will never forget. All kidding aside our school days have been hap y ones and there will always be a place in our hearts for the many friends we have made. To you, Hunger-grads , remember high school days are the happiest days of all--you can never live them over, so make the most of the coming years at M.H,S. , and we 'd like to wish you the very best of luck and success for the future. How could he study while the sunlight gleamed In small, sweet shapes, like wild things tame enough To dart to him and touch his hands for love? While there were profiles carved in every cloud To mark as grim or ludicrous or proud, And agile shadowings to writhe and crawl Like ghostly spiders up and down the wall, He could not help but turn their way to look. His eyes, that would not follow down his book The muddy trudgings of deliberate words, Reflected blue and silver flights of birds. You would not think was so much to trace Of wonderment on just a window space. --Winifred Welles f :II 'rl , , rn 1:11 CJ, C117 an LJ, A .
