G Axxof V 6 FOREWORD It is the aim of the '57 RAM- BLEH STAFF to capture the past year of activities at Mapleton High. We have attempted to highlight the main events of each season. Here is the fruit of our labors, we hope you enjoy it. Signed, THE HAMBLEH STAFF Miss Larson, Advisor Tom K. Spahn 1 lf- I is Business Manager Chuck Corbin Sports Editor 'T' I 1 , ev Janice Gray . Elmer Sonksen Freshmen Y 'Slim 2 Nancy Green Junior 1 - if, 1 1 I A MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL To the students of Mapleton High School: It is indeed a privilege to be asked to write a message to be printed in the 1957 RAMBLER, As you progress through life and have to make de- cisions along the way, I would like to have you recall the advice given the student body at Award Day this year by Mr. John Masters when he presented the Rotarian Awards. His advice is called The Four Way Test of the Things We Think, Say, or Do. 1. ls it the truth? 2. ls it fair to all concerned? 3. Will it build goodwill and better friendships? 4. Will it be beneficial to all concerned? Your school has made a sincere effort to supply you with the fundamentals necessary for you to pro- ceed on to your next step in life. For some of you, it will be additional education -- for others, different types of work. But remember, no matter what you do, there is only one thing that will train the mind and that is voluntary use of the mind by the man himself. A person may aid you, guide you, suggest and in- spire you, but the only thing worth having is that which you get by your own exertions, and what you get is in direct proportion to what you put into it. ima?-my M. Garlan Greenougj assldy it Freshmen initiation brings to MHS such personalities as I,ibe-rare and his brother George, lilvis Presley, and Annie Oakley. FRESHMEN INITIATION Cn September ll, the freshmen entered the school grounds clad in all sorts of ridiculous garb. Anxiously they performed their capers, occasionally dodging out of the way of a senior. Polishing shoes, saying tongue twisters, and walking backwards up the stairs were only a few ofthe burdens the seniors placed upon them, After a day of tortuous hilarity the fresh- men becnme full-fledged members of MHS. 6 ,.. -- -.- VUUP fl M- !
