SENIOR CLASS HISTORY ln September l936 a group of forty two t1m1d but eager f1V9 and SIX year olds entered the halls ot Mapleton Publtc School for the frrst tlme Of these forty two ten are members ot the Sen1or Class of l949 They are Mar1lyn Muckey Nancy Rhode Pat McBurney Francrne Hupke Bob Steckle berg Harley Carter Leonard Anderson Tony Chamberlarn Bob Sumpter and Warren Albertson The next e1ght years were erght full years for the class Bach year proved to be more exc1t1ng and 1nterest1ng than the precedmg year Addrtrons were made to the class and a tew of the students left Each year holds rndrvtdual memorles for each member of the class but one 1nc1dent that everyone w1ll long remember rs the tr1p made to Des Momes whlle tn the erghth grade Mlss Boggs and Mr Flemlng were lunlor Hrgh mstructors ln the fall of l945 the class entered h1gh school wxth a membership of hfty seven Mrs Lunqu1st was class sponsor and Norma lean Chamberlam was class presrdent The f1YSl class party was a skatmg party at Dentson Many changes were not1ced as the Freshles adapted themselves to the hlgh school routme As Sophomores the class garned rnore conhdence Soon hrdden talent began to appear ln the musrc room More ot the fellows found therr way to the new gym and the athletrc department underwent some notrceable changes Mlss Avery and Mrs Boderrck were sponsors of the class and Beryl Iensen was elected presldent Class membersh1p was flfty seven ln thelr luntor year the class took on the usual respons1b1l1ty of tlnancmg the Banquet and Prom Wtth Eva Nagel as president and Mrss Hawthorne and Mr Byers as sponsors the class put on a carnival and play sold maga z1nes rattled oft a turkey Cthanks to Nan and Harleyl sold concesslons at a Basketball game and held a bake sale The Prom and Banquet was a success wtth Hawau as the theme Fats Carlson furntshed the musrc for the Prom The Semor Class elected the tollowmg orhcers Wayne Leonard Presrdent Marrlyn Muckey V1CGPf9S1d9Ht Barbara Tadlock Secretary Tony Chamber la1n Treasurer 11 I I - I I - , . . 1 1 1 1 , 1 1 1 1 , . 1 1 1 ' . . , . 11 . 11 . 1 . , . 1 1 1 ' 1 ' V I - 1 1 , . . 11 ..11 11 11 . .
