It seems ages ago since Bernetta Drollinger with her long curls, John Peckham in his drop seat coveralls, Charlie Davis with his bangs, Harold Skip Mason in his knee pants, Alice Netz in her short dresses, Keith Ellingson with his tow-hair, Lois Rice with her long bangs, and myself, Barbara Hunzicker, were among the few who entered as first graders at Mapleton Grade School. No more of the present graduating class came until the fifth grade when Pat Holman with her round gold-'rimmed glasses, Joyce Beers with her fiery temper, Vadis Miller with her long Rraids, Joann Hoyt with her shyness, and Sam McCain, the strong, Silent type, joined us. Then in the sixth grade, barefooted Jack Jenkins became a member of our class. In the seventh grade, we gained a. heart-breald.ng Roberta Akers. In the eighth grade, bashful Jane Pearson enrolledg and I must not forget Nancy Loomis with her long black braids, who enrolled that year also. In the year 19147, thirty-one bold but determined freshmen entered high school. As we look back on the year we entered MHS, we find that we have accomplished a great task. There may have been brain-racking moments, but there were also joyful ones. Later on in the year, Ger- aldine DuVal fran Elmira High School joined our class. Much to our embarrassment on initiation day the girls had to come to school dressed in pajamas turned wrong side out and blouses of gunnyf- sacks. We carried high-heeled shoes in a. bucket. We wore our hair in five pigtails tied with green ribbons. The boys were dressed in girls' dresses worn inside out with hair ribbons around their heads. They carried in a pail shoes which were too big for them. There were a number of things which IB had to bring. Among them were a baby rat- tle and a pole with a string and a pin on the end. Much to our dis- appointment, we did not have to use them. After our much dreaded initiation, we settled down to a year's learning, The sophomores gave a welcome party which made us feel a little better. After being lclcked around for a year, we finally became sophomores. That year we gained Lola Cessnun from Klamath Falls and Jack Ashburner from Skykomish, Washington. We got the joy of initiat- ing the freshmen. We feft a little sorry for them, so we gave them a welcome party, too. Another year rolled around. During our junior year, we lost eleven and gained one, a. clovm called Fsillie Wornstaff af:-an San Diego, Cali- fornia. We gave a banquet for the seniors. It was held here at the high school. We decorated the Library in blue and silver with blue iris. Afterwards, we had movies. Now we are on the last leg of our journey. This year we gained Don Snell, a tall, lanky fellow from Cascade Locks, Oregon. 'Ihere will be twenty--one graduating in June. We took over the coke machine at the beginning of this year. The proceeds will go to finance our Senior Skip. We are planning on a trip to San Francisco-a Qminatown tour, a harbor tour, a trip to Stan- ford University, and other interesting places. 7? Xenia' glass will I, Roberta Akers, will my office as coke room custodian to any Junior who can run it to please everyone, if possible. I, Jack Ashburner, will. mf ability to go a whole semester of physics without getting more than a five plus to arvone that thinks it's easy. I, Joyce Beers, would will nv temper to Mr. Kienzle, but what little temper I have, wou1dn't do him any good. I, Lola Cessnun, will my diplana to Lola lhoxnpson, providing she has one of her own in two years. I, Charles Davis, will my position as head of the mgazine sales to anyone dumb enough to accept the job. I, Jack Jenkins, will my ability to watch Daisy to Lavonne Dill. I, ,Nancy Loomis, will my Soc. Ec. book to Orville Priest, providing he gets more out of class than I did. I, Skip Mason, will my pigeon toes to Bev Love. I, Sam McCain, will nv fishing ability to Richard Fowler, providing he doesn't use it during school hours. I, Vadis Miller, will my ability to write letters in class and get away with it, to Mary Taylor, providing she doesn't write to Vern. I, Alice Netz, will my weight to Marian Snith. I, Jane Pearson, will nv peroxided hair to Eva Sander. Qlass prophecy The following is an excerpt from the notebooks of that famous pro- fessor of psychiatry, Don Snell. These notes were made during a trip the professor took recently to his old high school haunts at Mapleton. As I look back upon nv recent visit to nv former fellow classmates I find that the years have brought on many changes. Some of these changes have been for the better and some have, well, just changes. You know how it is. Roberta Akers has settled down in Mapleton and is teaching Mr. Kienzle's Social Ec. class at the higm school. Barbara Hunzicker is still trying to pass Social Ee., and she is giving Roberta as much trouble as she gave Mr. Kienzle which is plenty. Joyce Beers has settled in Mapleton and married Willie Wornstaff. Willie has become a great industrial chemist. He is famous as The Sulfuric Acid King. I will never forget how Willie got his start with a few certain experiment in the high school lab. I saw a rather good football game recently. That was where I found Bernetta In-ollinger. She was playing left tackle for the Los Angeles Rams. I might also add that she managed to plug many large holes that were mashed through the line by Notre Dame's star halfback, Lois Pico. Lois has been the outstanctlng player of the Fighting Irish. However, the game ended in a tie. After the game, I went to a show. It starred that successhsl young actress, Jane Pearson. In the show her hair changes color five times which makes the part me plays a natural one. According to a certain physicist of high school days, Vadis Miller is now married to Vern Waldamont. I find that Jack Ashburner is now a successful physicist at the Oakridge Atanic Laboratory. As you know, Jack has just managed to cross a yew tree with a geranium to produce uranium Cyewrapiumj. Qxarilie Davis was famous a few years ago as the first man to land on the moon. He has retired now as the trip caused him to become moonstruck. Pat Holman is now the first woman president of the United States. Her most outstanding achievement is the recent debate with a famous Russian delegate. Pat talked steadily for three hours. When it became the Rnssian's turn to speak, he got up and left the hall, speechless. -- ffm mmm .. . ,,,.,V,, .,.,.,-,gg F WT, . .AW ,,., A 3 ,K :Q I .fy gi f U fxgf 3332 99 f ' 'Z I Y + 1 A m ufafk? 4 QD: 3' 1 62,5 J' -3. He is a. playboy with two million dollars. He got his money playing profession- al baseball for the New York Yankees. Jack Jenkins, known affectionately as O1d Fender Smashern, is now driving jet-'powered cars in the hot-rod races across the country. Keith Ellingson recently became the first man to make an inter- p1a.neta.ry flight. He landed on Liars and was mistaken for the Icing of the Frog Men. He is still there. Sam McCain took over after Keith left and pushed his rocket to the speed of light. Sam always was a fast operator. Geralciine DuVal is becoming famous as a television actress. She is quite popular with the men on the rocket ships who pick up her programs on their meteor warning sets. Alice Netz is still living at Brickervilleg she has stayed faith- fully at home. Lola Cessnun is, I am informed, a salesgirl at Macy's department store. She is evidently doing all right. Least but not last is John Peckham. John is now president of West Point. He has been nicknamed Old Slide Rule by the upperclassmen. Joann Hoyt is the World's Champion Woman Yarestler. She tips the scales at 225 pounds and wrestles under the name of the Mad Mau1er. She puts on some good, if not gruesome bouts. Last of the Senior Class of '52, I find Nancy Loomis, who is a waitress at the Sloppy Choppy Chinese Cafe. She is doing a good job of tal-:ing orders and loading the customers plates, using a barn shovel. V Well, this concludes this atrocious attempt at humor. And, for the sake of a few of the students mentioned herein let us hope that cer- tain parts of this nasty little document fail to hold true. ,X 2 , Mus DMS ,9:,,,,nf Qet 7.,-....-w..-,f.,.,,. .V -v. ,V , k f r ' UMM' 5 Y we . 7 S Q Q vxwQ7523D?
