She attended the Mapleton Schools for 12 years. In addition to her regular course of study, Iva was active in extra-curricular activities. During her senior year, she was president of G.A.A., and served on the Messenger Staff and Library Staff. Iva was well-liked and her presence is greatly missed by each of her classmates. Her quick smile, friendly personality, and cooperative spirit will always be remembered by the class of 1967. So live, that when thy summons comes tojoin The innumerable caravan, that moves To that mysterious realm, where each shall take His chamber in the silent halls of death, Thou go not, like the quarry-slave at night, Scourged to his dungeon, but, sustained and soothed, By an unfaltering trust, approach thy grave, Like one who wraps the drapery of his couch About him, and lies down to pleasant dreams. Certainly no one can argue that ten Hne ball-players will be lost through graduation. Nor can it be argued that this year's team was one of the best that lVIapleton will see. Next year's team, how- ever, will be expected to pick up where the team left off this year, that is by improving the 6-3 mark and keeping the home Held unmarred by defeat. Row I: N. Brockway Row 3: The 1966 Mapleton Mountie football team, under the fine coaching of Jim Reynolds, Lonnie Atchison, and Glenn Honeycutt, showed its fans the most impressive season in the four year history of Mapleton football. With the seniors showing outstanding leadership and with a great all-out team effort, the Mounties came back from a disappointing 1-8 record to a 6-3 record. The line, led by seniors Lechiara, Wiser, and Brock- way, despite its small size, proved to be among the best in the conference, allowing only 88 points defen- sively. However, a good team consists not only of a good stout defense but also a hard-driving offense. The back- field proved to be most outstanding as, led by all-con- ference halfback Tim Hickey and quarterback Jim Stuart, it scored the majority of 175 points, third high- est in the conference. Wrestling, a new sport, includes several matches, which are divid- ed into weight classes ranging from under 120 pounds to over 175 pounds. Points are scored by skillful execution of holds or technical maneuvers. A match ends when one wrestler scores a pin or is ahead at the end of three periods of play, each two minutes long. The Mounties showed great improvement over last year's team in accuracy and speed. The Varsity Mounties were headed by seniors Dave Brockway, Fred Longsdorf, Jim Stuart, and Tim Hickey. Leadership on the Hoor fell into the hands of these four boys, plus junior Nick Claypool. This same capable ball handling will take skill and practice by uncoming Varsity players. In individual playing, seniors Fred Longsdorf, Dave Brock- way, and Jim Stuart made the Firelands Conference team while Coach Honeycutt was selected coach of the year. Longsdorf was also chosen as a member of the All-Area team. Losing most of their starting team, the Mounties will have to rebuild next year. However, Coach Honeycutt feels that Mapleton, with practice and determination, can once again- produce a winning Firelands Conference team. Weekly meetings were held after school and there were several work nights to get the an- nual out on time. There was an al- most unanimous decision by the staff to have the crest, even if it meant extra work. Other Dances Various classes and organizations sponsored dances throughout the school year. The student council sponsored the Battle of the Bands, the F.H.A. presented the Sadie Hawkins Dance, and sophomore class offered the Spring Fling. Student spirit was evident at all dances, and each will be remembered for the fun, the good bands, and attractive decorations. Christmas Dance December 17, 1966, the Mapleton High seniors sponsored the first dance of their high school career. The annual Christmas dance was a semi-formal event and featured the Five Plus One, an Ashland High School dance band. The theme for the dance was Midnight and Mistletoe, with appropriate decorations and a ceiling of silver and blue. ul' ti l it NN NX xx NN X' is Perfect landing. Nice throw!
