nW umcl W yfack $ul UuuAweJwr? Vr uxjyidsL 0 O Thank you and good luck, good-bye friends! Alexa Memneken The art of being wise is the art of knowing what to overlook. EXCHANGE STUDENT To become an exchange student was probably one of the most important decisions in my life. Thank you to my family and friends in Germany, who encouraged me to go! My first day at Maple Valley made me cry, because I did not understand any words people said to me. It took me four days until I found out how to open my locker and sometimes 1 felt very stupid when people talked to me and had to repeat everything three or four times until I understood. But one of the first things that helped me a lot was that everybody was so patient and friendly. Here at my new family’s home, I felt at home from the second day (on the first day I slept most of the time), even though it is a big change from an older brother and sister to three younger ones. At school I was afraid at first that people would not like me because I came from Germany, but then I found out that was not true at all. I made friends and felt very comfortable. I loved the football games even though I had trouble understanding the rules. I enjoyed the schoolspirit which we don’t have at all in Germany. Homecoming was another fun thing I really loved. Now after five months, there are still a lot of things coming like going on the Senior Trip and Graduation. I’m looking forward to all those things but I’m also afraid because I know that the time when I have to go back to Germany comes pretty soon. People often ask me, if I want to go back and I answer yes because I have my family and friends over there, but one thing I know for sure, I will come back to Vermontville to see my family, friends and the town I got to love as a home town. I will always be thankful that I had the chance to be an exchange student, and I wish more people would have it, because it is an experience that is not comparable with being a tourist. I am thankful that I could come to my wonderful family, go to Maple Valley and live in Vermontville! CLASS MOTTO Nobody thought we were excep- tional, Except for us. Nobody thought we were talented, Except for us. Nobody thought we were the best or brightest, Except for us. But we earned the respect and love of the only ones that mattered . . . namely us. by Brendon McCullin CLASS SONG My Friends, My Friends. CLASS FLOWER Blue tipped, white rose. CLASS COLOR Senior Class Officers: Deb Cork ins, Secretary; Melissa Bren ton, Trea- surer; Scott Villanueva, President; Jamie Appleman, Vice President. 16 Silver and Navy blue.
