Presenting . . . Zhe 1983 Maple Valley M arching Cions . . . Under the direction of Mr. Duane Thatcher The 1983 Maple Valley Marching Lions are in their 3rd year under the direction of Mr. Duane Thatcher, and doing super! This year's band has 95 members, includ- ing 14 flag girls and Kevin Ohm — their man up front. Again this year, they have performed the half-time shows at the football games and marched in various parades. The band has gone through some changes, but has also accomplished some major victories during the past year. At the first football game, the band presented a show with songs taken from The Sound of Music . This show featured corps style marching — a totally new experience for everyone. It was enjoyed by all who watched. On October 1.1983, the Marching Lions competed at the Blackhawk Invitational Marching Band Festivals in Les- lie along with 7 other high school bands. Our own Lions, along with Haslett’s band, had the honor of being the two finest bands of the day. We were well accepted, looked good, and sounded great. Good Job MV! In March of 1983 (last school year), the band traveled to Bellevue for concert festivals. They received an over-all Division I (Superior) rating from the judges — a first from Maple Valley ;n ten years This has shown the other schools wh e we've a' dy known — Maple Val- ley Bands ART ' H
