. . . To Fulfill Occupations Mr. Warren Ison is a figure often seen by stu- dents entering the library. Mr. Ison’s known knowledge of the library is proof that one of his many and varied hobbies is reading. This well- read man could possibly be another name in our library as he is now writing a novel. Mrs. Doris Boomer, an able helper in our school library, spends her time doing one of her hobbies, reading. Outside of reading, and her work in the library, she also enjoys sewing. Preparing the school lunches and serving hundreds of students every day of school, the school cooks go about their jobs. Left to right their names are Mrs. Donna Hickey, Mrs. Donna Mahon, Mrs. Lois Gard- ner, and Mrs. Barb Gagne. Faculty 13

Administration Steps Forward Mr. Carroll Wolff, the Superintendent of M.V., is also the president of Region 6, and a member of the Michigan and American Association of School Administrators Council. He enjoys camping and playing golf. Mr. Tom Mateer involves himself in evaluation of curriculum, working with students, staff, commu- nity implements, and curriculum change. He is the coordinator of Vocational Education and the Talented Program. Mr. Burr Hartenburg occupies his time by being Maple Valley’s principal. In his limited spare time he enjoys building clocks, string art, and bicycling. The following custodians pictured right are Bud Gar- linger, Chris Schantz, Jim Lightner, and Carl Thrun. Mr. Larry Lenz is the assistant principal at Maple Valley. Among his varied school activities he is Student Council advisor and Athletic Director. He also camps and bowls in his spare time. 12 Foculty

Faculty Charges on . . . Mr. Pat Bengston teaches History and Geography. As well as his teaching he involves himself in coaching the M.V. Golf team. Included in his many hobbies are sailing, tennis, writing, and reading. Mrs. Carol Curtiss teaches Introduction to Literature, Mass Media, Composition, and in her words, “Whatever they throw my way.” In the little spare time she is awarded she indulges in reading, music, and chasing her little boy. Mrs. Denise Berry teaches Jewelry, Introduction to Art, Crafts, Printmaking, as well as one 7th grade section. She occasionally does lettering on certificates, posters, scenery, etc. Gardening and sewing are her hobbies. Ms. Shannon Drotar teaches Spanish 1 -4, and Developmental Reading. She is head of the yearbook staff, as well as the Spanish Club. Ms. Drotar condenses her many interests to photography, playing the guitar, and reading. Mr. Mike Booher coaches J.V. Basketball, and is involved in the Athletic Boosters. His teaching endeavors include math, and science. His hobbies are sports, hunting, and fishing. Mrs. Mary Fox teaches Housing, Consumer Education, 8th grade Home Economics, and Home Ec. 1. Her hobbies, many and varied, are knitting, crocheting, and snowmobiling. Mrs. Dorothy Carpenter teaches Play Production, Drama, Journalism, Creative Writing and Honors English. She helps with the Valley Visions. She enjoys country painting, and reading. Miss Barb Gallagher is an M.V. guidance counselor. Her many outside hobbies include reading, particularly nonfiction and psychological material. 4 Faculty
