But what actually makes up a typical school day? Or is there such a thing? It is the task of the 1972 Mavahian yearbook to record the events and activities which characterize school life at Maple Valley. It's not an easy job! Right now, Maple Valley is such an important part of our lives that we feel the fun and memories will never be forgotten. But in the years to come, we will turn back to our yearbook many times as a means of recalling old friends, teachers, dances, parties, and yes, even our classes! To bring harmony and to unify the many notes of the year into an inspirational chord, the Staff of 1972 has chosen Lyrics from popular Songs as tin theme of this yearbook. We hope that you will take time to read and reflect upon the words we have chosen. We think that they not only recapture the school life at Maple Valley, but also express our wishes for the future happiness of YOU--the students of Maple Valley. SITTING: HISTORIAN, Sue Satterlee; VICE- PRESIDENT, Leon Beebe; TREASURER, Mary Fox; PRESIDENT, Terese Beecher; SECRETARY; Lynette Pierce; ADVISOR, Sharlot Sours, The National Honor Society is an organization with chapters throughout America. The object of these chapters is to create an enthusiasm for scholarship, to stimulate a desire to render services, to promote worthy leadership, and to encourage the development of character in the students. The society's members are Juniors and Seniors and also include provisional members form the Sophomore class. Qualification is based upon one's previous development of character, scholarship, leadership, and service. The students must, of course, continue to demonstrate these qualities by which they were selected. The Maple Valley Chapter has, in previous years, participated in student orientation programs and in sponsoring of foreign exchange students. Nationally, it has supplied college scholarships for its deserving members. J National Honor Society President 38 Student Government Just as the United States Congress represents the citizens of America, the Ma- ple Valley High School Student Council represents the students of this school By electing homeroom representatives and Student Council officers, you are deter- mining the quality of your student government. However, if each and every student government will fail to be a sounding board for students, If it fails in that way, it fails in every way. It is my sincere hope that interest in student government increases, for stu- dent government is truly the grass roots level of America's democratic system. We, the members of the 1972 Mavahian Staff, have struggled hard this year to make the yearbook a success. Working together as a team, we have learned many different as- pects of yearbook production: photography, designing layouts, writing and typing copy. In addition, we have learned a lot about ourselves as individuals—how we work un- der pressure, and our dependability in com- pleting assignments. Also, without the help of our advisor, Miss Laurie Kendrick, we never would have completed the yearbook. (IN THE TREE) Leigh Pennock, Miss Kendrick, Steve Rathbum. You are now entering a world of tomorrows, of new responsibilities, of new objectives. The world will be yours to discover, but first, you must discover yourselves. Then, and only then, can you give of yourselves. You are leaving the halls of the friendly Lions , to go out and make new friends and acquaintances. Don't forget us! Memories of your lead- ership and vibrant spirit will serve as an inspiration for us in the year to come. Now as we say good-by , we hope that you will recall with fond- ness your six years at Maple Valley. Farewell, Seniors. “YOU ARE A CHILD OF THE UNIVERSE” “AND WHETHER OR NOT IT IS CLEAR TO YOU,” 123 THEREFORE BE AT PEACE WITH GOD, WHATEVER YOU CONCEIVE HIM TO BE, AND WHATEVER YOUR LABORS AND ASPIRATIONS, KEEP PEACE ,WM YOUR SOUL. Just put your shoulders back and face up to it: schb t Mt! You and hundreds like you are going to be able to get up early in the morning and race to class. You're r%i €«%rtd be able to study cool things like math and history and English. Well, scrounge around and maybe you caii find something to do to take your mind off of school. Go out and hjt a golf ball or dive into a pool or something. And maybe, just maybe, these next few months will go by so fast you'll be back in school before you know it. ' ■
