Physical education Mr. Michael Sorrell was the assistant football and Jr. Varsity baseball coach. Coaching Varsity football, track, and Jr. Varsity basketball was Mr. William Gibbs. Varsity basketball and baseball were coached by Mr. James Wynes. Mr. Ralph Kirk coached Jr. Varsity football, and he was assistant track coach. Another assistant track coach was Mr. Gene Henderson who was also Junior High basketball coach. 29 Mr. Michael Sorrell taught boys' physical education. Mrs. Mary Ellen Wynes explained free throws in girls' physical education and noun clauses in English.

First and second year Spanish was taught by Mr. Brian Selleck. He also taught English 10. Mr. Robert Stoel taught English 9 and 10. Languages Student teaching in Mrs. Dorothy Carpenter's speech classes was Miss Carol Chapman of Olivet College. English 4, journalism and speech was taught by Mrs. Dorothy Carpenter. Mrs. Barbara Hlavac instructed English 10 and 11. 28

Mr. Wentworth frequently spent time after school with individuals of the band or with whole sections. This was the expression Mr. Housler used when flattering the office girls or secretary. He had tests to be typed. School wasn't bad at all sometimes. The teach- ers were friendly, and the students could smile. Physical science wasn't all music as it looks like on the board. The chorus class had listened to a recording of 'West Side Story. Mr. Richardson, who retired this year, had a rov- ing eye for a pretty girl. A familiar sight was Mrs. Montgomery and her step watch. Mrs. Montgomery retired this year.
