The queen's court and Pattie Gaedert, the 1964 Syrup Fes- tival queen, listened to Mr. Forrest Rinehart. trees of the Lord are full of sap. 25 th festival Juniors operated a soft-drinks stand at Festival. MV band led the big parade at the Festival. The Syrup Festival court consisted of Linda Imhoff, alternate for queen, Barbara Thomason, Loa Hokanson, and Anita Benedict. 13

National Maple Queen, Fran Handsel, from Ohio crowned Kathy Stanton. First prize float, entered by the People's Bible Church, was The Sun shines on This year marked the 25th annual Maple Syrup Fes- tival. Queen Kathy Stanton was crowned by Francis Handsel, the National Maple Queen. Other features of the Syrup Festival included parades with both the high school and junior high bands, a pancake breakfast, a midway on main street, stage acts, and a barbecue chicken dinner sponsored by the Methodist church. Majorettes Kathy Stanton and Bonnie Ewing led the Band during marching season. 12 Rem Wall and his band en- tertained at the Syrup Festival.

No tables or chairs were allowed, but they weren't needed. Girls bring guys to dogpatch Couples were chased up to Marryin' Sam to get hitched. Dancing was even more fun in shorts and sweatshirts. A day in Dogpatch was the theme for the Sadie Hawkins Dance. Girls escorted guys and made them corsages out of vegetables. A fine of ten cents was imposed on the boys if they refused to eat their corsages. The Petty Boys entertained at the dance. 14
