Hearts shine at sweetheart ball A variety of records was played. The entertainment was enjoyed by all. A Valentine's box was the center of the Senior's Sweetheart Ball. Crepe paper streamers, paper hearts, and cupids formed the main decorations. At the intermission valentines were passed out to the couples present. Besides dancing all the time, guests enjoyed visiting while relaxing their tired feet. Students helped themselves to the refresh- ments. 11

N.S.F.P.L.P.L. S.Q. highlights green giant hoot and stomp Entertainers at the dance were the New San Francisco Public Library Parking Lot String Quartet from Olivet College. The Valley of the Jolly Green Giant Hoot and Stomp was held March 26. Over two hundred people attended the dance held by the journalism class. The N.S.F.P.L. P.L.S.Q. from Olivet and the Petty Boys from M.V. performed during the dance. The Jolly Green Giant, Dick Steward, and friend, Merlene Jones, ruled the dance. 10 Casual pea-pickin' clothes were the rule at the Hoot and Stomp.

National Maple Queen, Fran Handsel, from Ohio crowned Kathy Stanton. First prize float, entered by the People's Bible Church, was The Sun shines on This year marked the 25th annual Maple Syrup Fes- tival. Queen Kathy Stanton was crowned by Francis Handsel, the National Maple Queen. Other features of the Syrup Festival included parades with both the high school and junior high bands, a pancake breakfast, a midway on main street, stage acts, and a barbecue chicken dinner sponsored by the Methodist church. Majorettes Kathy Stanton and Bonnie Ewing led the Band during marching season. 12 Rem Wall and his band en- tertained at the Syrup Festival.
