Field Hockey is the best sport, says Dawn Ferrel. She is one of the few Freshmen on the team. Taking time out to smile is Nicole Benjamin. Nicole loves to socialize in homeroom. Getting Back to Basics Scores for the High School Proficiency Test QHSPTJ, given to all students in thej freshman year, have dramatically increased since last year. The test, previously given on a trial basis started counting in 1986 for receivir a diploma. lt is given in the junior high grades as pre- and post-tests in the areas c reading, writing, and math to prepare students for the test in ninth grade. All ninth grade students must pass the test as a requirement for graduatid from high school. The scores increased in reading from 82.4 to 92.9 percent, writing increase from 79 to 90.5 percent, and the math increased five percent from last year. Tl' year, the testing took place on April 12, 13, and 14. There was a ninth grade parent orientation at the end of February introducir the parents of ninth graders to the HSPT. Mr. Duffy and Mr. Hill, who run the High School Proficiency Test said, 'lWe'i pleased with the increase in all scores but we feel that there is much room fl improvement. This is our major thrust for the 1987-88 school year. P. Miller l. Misslehorn F. Moffa E. Moffitt B. Moonblatt ri'i 1 is 3 D. Muni rs.: 88! Freshmen 1 K. Nehring K. O'Brein . S. Om N. Ormsby
