Our blood drive vvas a huge success again this year, just as it vvas in the past. This progress is due to the people who vvere responsible for our great response. The faculty helped us to get organized. The students from our junior, senior and sophomore classes all donated blood to the blood drive. Last but not least, Mrs. Thomas, the school nurse heads the en- deavor, One thing that has alvvays been fasci- nating about Shaders is their generosity. This year's blood drive vvas right up there with the best of them. We man- aged to out-do the previous year. Mr. Klaus is one of our new English teachers this year. i l Pride and Spirit 2 Basics This year it was back to basics. For many of us that means back to all the things we forgot about over summer vacation. It means picking up from where we left off last year, and for a chosen few, it means one more year of high school. Although the students and faculty have changed over the years, many things have endured. They are the basics of school, Books are one basic no one likes to get back to, Each year they seem to get thicker and heavier with no relief in sight. Filled with endless information and complex words, books are surely one basic everyone dreads. Of course, they have to be covered at all times, and it's good to keep in mind that excess paper can break the binding as any teacher will remind you. Action is the big game or meet, musicals and club fund raisers. ltfs Homecoming and the Prom with an eagerly awaited an- nouncement of king and queen. Action is a heated game of volleyball in gym class and the threat of a sulfur dioxide explo- sion during chemistry lab. lt's trying to get to class at the risk of being run over when lunch begins and big hungry wrestlers are coming at you with full speed. Schedules are a definite basic of school whether we like to admit it or not. Without them life would be one continuous study hall or gym class and who wants that?l Introductions are crucial to any school year, This year brought new faces to recognize and names to learn. As always each school year yields the addition of different students and teach- ers without whom school life would be boring. Very boring. Cards are a basic from which no student can escape. Without fail on the first day, the first thing teachers ask you to do is fill out emergency cards, permission cards, and oh yes, index cards. Do you ever wonder whatever becomes of these cards which you have painstakingly filled out at the risk of severe writer's cramp? Most likely they're put away in a file cabinet marked HDO not open until graduationn and forgotten forever, Spirit is one thing that we as Maple Shade students have. We diligently decorate our hallways and dress in downright ridicu- lous clothes to win the coveted spirit stick for our class. Then we band together and support our teams onto a victory. Spirit is pride in our school. Once you get down to it, the basics are what school is about. x A 1 4 i if ill lr l, . gi' ' S flat These Seniors are showing you the ordinary procedure at the beginning of each year.
