SU PERINTENDENT Mr. Albert E. Hadfield-M.A., Superintendent Mr. Hadfield has been Superintendent of Maple Heights Schools since I938, and was a teacher of mathematics and financial research at Shaker Heights from l929 to I938. He attended Hiram College and the Teachers' College at Columbia University, majoring in educational administration. PRINCIPAL Mr. Wilbur D. Coon-M.A., Principal Mr. Wilbur D. Coon came to Maple Heights High School in I923. Prior to that he attended Otterbein College and Ohio State University. When he first came here, he taught geog- raphy and history. Three years later he became principal of the high school. GIRLS' ADVISER Miss Bernice Wiltshire-M.A., Mathematics Miss Bernice Wiltshire attended Columbia University. Her first four years of teaching were spent at Berea Elementary School. She came here in l923 to teach high school mathe- matics. ln I933 she became Girls' Adviser. Q I 7.

ADMINISTRATION AND FACULTY Teaching and maintaining democracy in the class- room is building the foundations for a better world. THE BOARD OF EDUCATION Bernard Pastor H. H. Richards Frank Vasek H L Greene The Board of Education, by law, is charged with the opera- tion of the public schools of Maple Heights. This includes the responsibilities of providing buildings, school supplies, and in general, seeing that the school is properly financed. The em- ployment of teachers and custodians for the school is handled by the Board of Education. This Board is the only local author- ity governing the operation ofthe public schools. The text books and courses of study are checked and approved by the members of the Board, Five members make up our Board of Education and these are elected for a term of four years by the voters of Maple Heights. The President, Mr. Bernard A. Pastor, has been a member of the Board since April, 1943. The Vice-President, Mr. Herbert L. Greene, has been a mem- ber of the Board since january, l94O. He served as President in i942, The Clerk-Treasurer, Mr. Frank j. Vasek, has been a mem- ber of the Board since january, l938. Mr. Arthur H. Richards has served on the Board since Sep- tember, l94O. For the past three years he has served as Presi- dent of the Board of Education. Mr. Howard E. Miller was elected to the Board in September, 1942. A president is appointed by the elected members for a one- year term, but he may be re-appointed any number of times. Their meetings are held the first and third Tuesday of each month in the offices of the Board of Education, Room lO, in Broadway School. 6

Miss Mary Basinger--M.A., Span- ish, Latin, English Miss Mary Basinger attended the College of Wooster, Bluffton College, and Ohio State University. She taught third and fourth grade and junior high in Columbus Grove, Ohiop then went to Marga- retta High School at Castalia, Ohio. She came here in l944. Miss Basinger is adviser of the Friendship Club. Miss Harriet Davidson-B.S., So- cial Studies Miss Davidson has been at Ma- ple Heights since l929. She at- tended Bowling Green College. She sponsors the Girl Reserves. Miss Elizabeth Dunn-B.S., A.B., Art Miss Dunn has been at Maple Heights for,Seven years. She at- tended Principia jr. College and Kent State University. Miss Dunn supervises the Cheerleaders and directs the Senior Play. Miss Dorothy Fuller-M.M., B. Sch. Mus., Vocal Music Director Miss Fuller has been at Maple Heights for two years. She for- merly taught at Leavittsburg, O., and attended Northwestern Uni- versity, Oberlin Conservatory, Co- lumbia University. Christiansen Choral School. She has also stud- ied voice with Marshall Bryant of New York City. M i ss Frances Gerhardt - B.S., Girls' Physical Education Miss Gerhardt has been at Ma- ple Heights for eight years, and attended Ohio State University. She produces some good intramu- ral teams for after-school sport. Mr. joseph A. lammarino-M.A., Science, Biology Mr. lammarino has been teach- ing at Maple Heights for twelve years. He attended Otterbein Col- lege and Ohio University. He is Adviser of the Student Council. Mr. Marion Conrad-B.S., Mathe- matics, Pre-Flight Aero- nautics Mr. Conrad has been at Maple Heights for one year. He attended Capital University and Ohio State University. Mr. Conrad is also an assistant coach. Miss Marian R, Douglas--A.B., English Miss Marian Douglas attended Lake Erie College and has had graduate work at Columbia Uni- versity and Western Reserve. She taught English for six years at Fairport, Ohio. She has been teaching here for twelve years. Mr. R. C. Faught-B.S., E.E., M.A., Industrial Arts Mr. Faught has been at Maple Heights for eleven years. Previous- ly he taught at Perry, Ohio. He attended Tri-State College, An- gola, Indiana. Miss Hazel Gander-A.B., Com- merce and Business Miss Gander has been teaching at Maple Heights for three years. She taught at McClain High School in Greenfield, Ohio, before com- ing to Maple Heights. She at- tended Ohio University and Bliss Business College, Columbus, Ohio. Miss Gander sponsors the Honor Society, Mr. W. G. H o p p e r-B.S., Me- chanical Drawing, Science Sixteen years at Maple Heights is the record for Mr. Hopper. He attended Kent State University. Western Reserve, and University of Southern California. Mr. Hop- per is Adviser of the Maple Heights Hi-Y. Mr. Iames L. johnson-B.S., Sci- ence Excluding his time out for the Navy, Mr. johnson has been at Maple Heights for four years. He is an assistant coach. He attended Ohio University, Western Reserve, and Princeton University.
