“PANTHERS In the 1952-53 basketball season the Panthers won 12 out of 14 WLT Conference games which put them in first place with Fife Lake. Both teams received a trophy and their names engraved on the floating trophy. Picture, back row, left to right: Coach Rader, A. Peplinski, D. Peplinski, Hanna, Zientek and Waslawski. Front row, left to right: Sharnowski, Novak, Brow, Miller, Whitten and Shupiery. On January 9, the Panthers lost a heartbreaker to Buckley on the winner's home floor. The Panthers led for the first 3 quarters, but Buckley out-scored Maple City by 9 points in the last quarter and won the game by one point. 55-54. BLUE JAYS Last fall the girls entered the All-Girls WLT Conference together with Buckley, Fife Lake, Williamsburg and Rapid City. The girls lost one conference game to end the season in sec- ond place. The Blue Jays also split with Elberta in two games of non-conference play. RESERVES The Reserves had a very successful season this year contend- ing 8 wins to one loss. Their only loss was to Lake Leelanau by the score of 35 to 17.
