ff -' Phaethon, the son of Helios, bold with determination and delusions of power in his veins of youth, ascended toward the temptations of the illusive heavens. Through this quest imprisoned within his existence, he struggled to master the muscular steeds toward the sun. As Phaethon has done, we have experienced the fiery temptation to ascend to the deliverance of words in an attempt to sweep to the stunned unawareness of a reader. OO I 64

Warmed by the heat of a thousand trash fires, The poor man's camp is a puzzling sight, Filled with castaways-whom no one admires. Whispers and wishes rise into the night, Homeless and helpless these victims of fate Dream of white mountains, and dreams of escape. IKneel on humanities' doorstep and waiti. And dream of white lace, and night's dreary drape. Lifetimes filled with human destitution, Unwritten tales of human transgressions, Generations with no real solution only sad unanswerable questions. For even the greatest mountain of white is lost in the mist, and gloom of the night. ...Dennis Graham de? Momie! A young child, his hair tossled like it had been combed with an electric blender stood, apparently in ex- cruciating discomfort, in the middle of a very busy kit- chen, faintly resembling the lobby of Kennedy Interna- tional Airport. MOMIE! His little voice shrieked with admonition. His face seemed to be turning a faint shade of avocado, as he gripped a naval orange so tightly he was making instant fruit juice. A woman, in her thirties, busi- ed herself with a child in his high chair, trying desperate- ly to get the little angel to finish his banana meal, Ger- ber's style, but with no avail. Every time one spoonful went in, a mouthful went out, all over the wall. Actually, the kid had definite possibilities as an abstract artist. His little collage was looking suspiciously like a great work of art. MOMIE! The little boy was now folded up on the indoor-outdoor carpet, writhing like a rattlesnake in hot Crisco. What is it! The mother was now scraping off little Salvador DaIi's latest endeavor with a spatula, as she turned to see her persecuted protege. Persecuted by a natural phenomenon, too much Hi C the night before. Momie, I gotta go to the BATHROGMV' His face tensed up like an electric eggplant. Well, why don't you go? She paid little attention, for she was attempting to pres- ently save an innocent kitten from her smallest child's even now Herculean grasp. The kitten was past pain, as agony set in. He was dangling little puss-n-boots by her tail, like a pendulum suspended above a pit. The reason I can't is because Suzie has locked the door and isn't let- ting anybody in! johnny's abdomen has swollen to the size of a nine-month along woman carrying twins. Why won't she let anybody in for heavens sake? The cat, being previously parolled from Atlas lunior's hand, numbly walked away from the scene, with a rather glazed look covering her grayened eyes. The cat guessed this day was not going to be one of her better days. She says she's protesting President Ford's stand on conditional annesty and is taking up a silent vigil on the commode. Well, for goodness sakes tell her to get out of there, tell herl told her to get out. Okay. johnny raced off like a streak of greased lightning, little wonder why. Now, com'on honey, let's burp little Bo-Bo. Little Bo-Bo was slung over mama's shoulder like a knapsack as a burp, sounding like a clap of thunder, echoed out from the gargantuous lungs of this pee-wee. Little Mr. Firefly re- turned to announce the detente of his visit with sister Su- zie. HMOMIE! She refused to come out, saying she would rather fast for eight years in a Monastery than give up her stand. MOMIEI l'M GETTIN' DESPERATEIH Okay, l'II go talk to her. Dance around a little, it helps. And as moth- er diligently headed for the bathroom, johnny danced like an Indian, hoping for rain. Somehow, they seemed similar. Now, Suzie, come on out. Your brother has to use the bathroom, NOW. Now, unlock the door, okay? I refuse to come out on the grounds that I would be compromising my conscience. Listen, I'm a women of twelve. I think it's about time I stand for a cause I believe in She remained unmoved. Suzie, I have a little cause I'm going to stand up for too, if you don't come out of there this instant. Oh yeah, what is it, Mom? Well, Suzie, you may have not heard of it before, but it's called a belt. The door unlocked surprisingly quick as the self- appointed monk headed out, and Sitting Bull dashed in- to safety, safety from bursting. And as the toddler crawled from his high chair on to the kitchen table to pour ket- chup on his mother's geraniums and as the cat meowed pitifully under the color T.V., the woman smiled as her thoughts mildly floated to menopause ....... ...james Rudolph
