S Gi lUl A 72 LQ? Maui tg Carolers Herald Songs in Foreign Languages Foreign Language is very popular at Manzano, with Spanish Club, Spanish Honor Society, German Club and French Club stemming from the classes, involving many of our students. The department strives to deepen knowledge of the culture of the target language as well as teaching the skill of communication in that lan- guage, said Mrs. Frances Cassino, Department Chairman. All groups go carolling at Christmas in the many various languages. Spanish Club and people inter- ested from the Spanish classes are given an oppor- tunity annually to take a trip in the spring to Chi- huahua, Mexico. But not only for fun. The groups are constantly helping the student identify with the language and the culture. All Foreign Language clubs also form soccer teams that challenge and play each other throughout the year. In the early part of the school year, the Foreign Language clubs also hosted an International Dinner exhibiting foods from different lands represented. Living in a state so closely interwoven with the Spanish culture, Foreign Language isa very impor- tant and worthwhile investment. 1 Frances Cassino-Department Supervisor, Spanish III, ' lvl 2, Suzy Magnuson-French I,II,III 3. john Herrera-Spanish I,II 4. I told you that in German 2-I-2:5, says Kathy Asselmeier. 8 Although it, may appear that Mr. Herrera is going to ' pinch Norman Perrin, he is in reality only making his point. 9 Lee Roy Martinez, Denise Martinez, Mark Martinez, Susan McNulty, Gene Myers, Don Morrison, Cindy Nicholson and Mary Weimer show a variety of attitudes towards getting their pictures taken. 56

Q IE QM! IE IE my 63 P.E. Gives Students a Way to Release Tensions and Emotions The Physical Education program is structured to teach the fundamental skills, safety, and rules of each sport and activity, with hope that each student will find some understanding, enjoyment, self- expression, and social value. Objectives of the program are to develop muscu- lar strength and endurance, to learn activities and skills that will carry over into later life, to develop leadership abilities and cooperation and teamwork with fellow students. Through physical activities, the individual physi- cally releases tensions and emotions so he may better participate in his other subject areas, 1.
