QLJJ Home Economics Helps Develop Talent As Well As Set Goals The philosophy of the Home Economics pro- gram is based on the belief that individuals are the strength and most important resource of the coun- try. The program, therefore, is designed to help in- dividuals to improve the quality of personal and family life, and to develop skills necessary for en- try into an occupation, said Margaret Thompson, Home Economics Department head. An effectual Home EC. program helps youth to clarify and establish goals as well as develop home and occupational talents. Manzano's Home Ec. Dept. offers classes in Foods, Clothing, Preparation for Marriage and Parenthood and a Child Care program where students care for children for two periods a day. H.l.R.O. is a year program designed for students interested in training for a career in the hospitality industry, said judy Todd. D New Auto Mechanics Class Helps Train Future Flat-Fixers Automotive Mechanics at Manzano High is de- signed to prepare the first year student with the basics of automotive theory, vocational possibili- ties, consumer knowledge, in automotive products and service and minor repair of the automobile. The second year students will practice in major overhaul of engine components, electrical systems, power transmission systems, steering and suspen- sion systems and practice in engine and electrical diagnosis. A course in light aviation engines is hoped to be added in the future. Through hard work over the past year and sum- mer, Manzano now has a new Auto Mechanics building located on the south side of the gym, in- cluding a new engine diagnostic center, brake sys- tem center, starting and changing diagnostic center, engine brake overhaul equipment and more.
