Aldo lives in Recife, Brazil, and speaks Portuguese, Italian, and Spanish. When he came to the United States, he didn't speak any English. ANN KROTIN, SWEDEN Ann is a 19-year-old senior here at Manzano. She is from Sweden. There are four members in her family. Sweden has a population of about 8 million with a Democratic government. King Carl Gustav XV is the ruler. The cost of living in Sweden is higher than in the United States, due to the higher taxes. School lunches and books are free because the taxes pay for them. Ann says Manzano is a nice school and a lot easier than schools in Sweden. Children in Sweden begin school at age 7 and have more homework and harder tests. The dress in Sweden is similar to that of the United States. The boys have long hair and everyone wears blue jeans. While Ann is in the US., she is living with Cindy Martinez's family. Ann enjoys Albuquerque and will always remember her year as an exchange student. j'1,,l3i,f.t.:ww' 'if1Ii', i ' ' . ' qigi S ' -,,.,.,,.3aagr .,,,,3,. Kathy got involved in the lCXchange Program when a lady came to Manzano and spoke about being an exchange student. Kathy's main reason for joining the program was to learn Spanish, and the best way to do this was to live in and around where the language was spoken. Her main goal was to meet new people, live differently, and get something different out of life. Kathy not only reached her goal, but gained a family and the experience of a very interesting culture. Merida, capital of Yucatan, is a tourists' city, with a population of about 30 thousand and buildings of French and Spanish styles. Merida is 478 years old, the oldest city in the American Continent. lt has a tropical climate with rainy season in August and Septem- ber. As a sophomore, Kathy served as class vice-president. During her junior year, she served as class president. During her senior year, Kathy was an exchange student. She has been a member of Spanish club for all three years, a member of Chicano Club her sophomore and junior year, and a member of Spanish Honor Society and National Honor Society her junior and senior year. He was born in Cochabamba, Bolivia, where he now lives. His father is now in New York where he works for an insurance company. Bolivia's weather is mild, not too hot and not too cold. The country has a Constitutiohal government and is not as rich as the United States. Marcelo speaks Spanish, which is his native tongue. He thinks New York is beautiful and Albuquerque is a lovely city. Marcelo found it difficult to become accustomed to another country.
