i 'l-J T 5 First Year Girls sing Boys Rules The 1974-75 season was a season of firsts for Manzanos Girls Basket- ball team. It was their first year of inter- scholastic competition, their first year to play using boys rules, and the first time they ve had a winnin season. The varsity finished the regu ar season 'with a 6-3 record but was eliminated lin the sub-district tournament follow- in tough losses to Del Norte and Ci ola. the Monarchs are looking for an even better season next year with six return- -ing lettermen and an excellent group of sophomores and juniors moving up from this year s 5-1 junior varsity team. iFirst Rowj Varsity Bridget Lane Christy Lindley Susan Daniels 12nd Rowl Cathy Costales manager Tamie Gardner Cindy Meyer Debbie Bailey jackie Williams. cheerleaders Manzano's Chosen Twelve Lead Mighty Monarchs in Spirit Who are the Monarchs? We are the Monarchs. What kind of Mon- archs? MIGHTY Monarchs! But not quite as proud and mighty without our cheerleaders. In foot- ball, cross country, golf, wrestling, basketball, baseball, track and swimming, our cheerleaders are there, cheering our boys on and encouraging all to support each other in our own individual in- terests. In competition this year, our cheerleaders took five superior ribbons at a UNM clinic in july and competed against all other cheerleaders for the North-South basket- ball game. Miss Simms, cheerleader, Drill Team and Pep Club spon- sor, again this year has shown a tremendous talent for working with the girls. She demands the most from each girl, and the re- sults are an excited, enthused and together group of girls anxious to boost Manzano's Spirit. When asked why she was willing to de- vote so much of her time to Man- zano, janet Winter replied, I love spending time on it because it's worth it to me. It gives you a good chance to meet people, and l'm proud to represent the school thatl love.
