First Meet Successful Manzano's Cindermen return a strong nucleus of 'VI seniors to comp ement a young, strong squad, reflecting the tremendous turnout this year. Strengths for Manzano this year are loo ed for in the s rints, with such returnees as Randy Costales, Keith Chavez, Greg Hosek, and Robert VerWey and in the distances with Mike Maes, Sonny Martinez and Ronald Garcia. Also figuring strong for the thinclads are Glen Vreeland and Scott Chafins. The Monarchs, who finished sec- ond in District ZAAAA last year, are hoping for another strong fin- ish this season, with a much im- proved squad and tremendous en- thusiasm. II ls' volleyba -E bn In their third season of interscholastic competition, the girls' gymnastic team had their most successful year. Posting a 'l5-3 record, they beat tough competition from Cibola, Sandia School, and Socorro, while losing in dual competition only to Los J-.5 Alamos. L In district competition, the team efforts were combined for a third place finish. The team's one all-around competitor, Lisa McCarty, also took a second in that 1' 1 catagory. Next year's team looks even more prom- ising. With four returning lettermen and 12 other varsity and junior varsity gymnastic, the team should have an even better gym- nastic season. 1.
