iq' E 'E I The Monarch's first game was a good indication of what was to be expected the remainder of the season. They rolled over Gallup .81-47 and proceeded to win their next six games after suffering a heart breaking 'I-point setback at Los Alamos. The Monarchs defeated Highland, West Mesa, 2nd Grand junction twice before going to the Las Cruces Tournament to defeat May- field and Carlsbad. The last game of 1974 was a 5-point defeat at the hands of the Las Cruces High Bulldogs in the finals of the tournament. Excellent defense and teamwork earned the Mon- archs a second place state rating going into the new year. The Mighty Monarchs started the year off in spectacular fashion by shellacking Sandia 77-53, Rio Grande 87-64, and Del Norte 72-52. They returned to the Purple Pit to defeat Valley, Cibola and Grants before going to Eldorado to pluck the Eagles by a score of 79-54. The Monarchs rolled down to Albuquerque High with a sparkling 6-0 district record and defeated their bitter rivals for the 4th straight time. 3 l A l l mail -frl . Best Regular Season Posted in MHS History The Monarchs picked up two more district wins by defeating Del Norte at home and Valley on the road before dropping an overtime game to Rio Grande by a score of 74-72. This defeat broke their 10 game winning streak. The Monarchs regained their Championship form and went on to clinch the district title by de- feating Cibola, Cirants, and the Eldorado Eagles to finish the regular season with 20 wins and 3 losses. Under Head Coach lim Thrash, The Purple Pride Gang kept their two year home winning streak intact by not suffering a defeat in the friendly confines of the Purple Pit. Manzano's almost perfect season was the result of tremendous unselfishness and teamwork on offense and total dedication and a complete intense effort defensively. The Monarchs led the City in almost every category at the end of the regular season. The best overall record 20-3, best defensive average, 56.2 points, second best offensive average 72.7 points, and best point margin between offense and defense, 16 points. Tu -Q -0-1 GJ AC Lf! N -Q
