Don Mason finishes ahead of Viking opponent Starters in state AAU meet Of his sophomore team, Coach Bill Wolfarth said, It is the best one I've ever had, and in two years we should have a great team. The Manzano varsity cross country team acquired two wins in the regular season over Rio Grande and West Mesa. In his second year competing for Manzano in cross country, Herman Garcia, one of the most outstanding members, placed fourth in dis- trict competition and fifth in state. With the promise shown, Manzano can look forward to a successful season in '68 and '69. Although the '67 cross country team and a rebuilding year, spirit never faltered. Herman Garcia's graduation will mean the loss of an outstanding team member, but Coach Wolfarth's overwhelming confidence in his sophomore team, is evident in his statements of future hopes, and he expects to be a strong district contender in a couple of years. Coaches Walter Brock and assistant Charles Pearce The combination of superior team effort and outstanding individual performances led the Manzano Barons through another successful season with eight wins and only one loss. Instigating the season with a 25-0 win over Santa Fe and clinching it with a 22-19 victory over West Mesa, the Barons hold an amazing record with only two losses in three years in comparison to their 23 wins. In perhaps the most outstanding performance of the season, the Barons defeated the Highland Bees 14-7. In games such as these, superior performing in- dividuals were revealed. Top 'Scorers for the Barons were Rocky Disanti and Skip Ferris. Jerry Kidwell held the record for touchdown passes at nineteen.
