A bubbling personality and a contagiously happy smile are two of the trademarks which distinguishes one of the four juniors who are to be honored in this year's Who' Who, Sally Barnes, Sally's infectious enthusiasm has been recognized by the student body who elected her to the Baron cheerleading squad as a sophomore and chose her as one of only two juniors to be a varsity cheerleader this season. Since cheerleading is an A office, Sally was forced to resign her post as a junior Inner Council member this year and finds that much of her extra-curricular time is, in fact, taken up by attending athletic functions, performing and the strenuous practice sessions involved. An alter- nate to Student Council as a sophomore, she was chosen as a representative this year and is one of the most dependable and hard-working members of the council. Despite the demanding schedule which cheerleading imposes, Sally finds time to work on such projects as the Christmas card greeting to Viet Nam, decoration committees for Homecoming and Twirp Week, the Twirp Week planning committee and the city -wide Inner Council. Sally also volunteers her study hall this year to work as an activities office assistant. Cheerleading is the manor hobby which Sally is able to find time for. She intends to attend the University of New Mexico and become a dental hygienist. SALLY BARNES Junior One of the four juniors to receive the Who's Who recognition this year, Ric Thom is rapidly maturing into one of Manzano's most effective student leaders. In addition to taking an increasing vital part in student government, Ric is participating in the athletic program of the school as a member of the varsity basketball team. He will be expected to be one of the returning lettermen next year which will form the nucleus of the team. Holding, perhaps the second most influential post in the school, vice president of the Student Body, Ric has been an valuable assistant in the managing of the student body projects and the organization of student affairs. His grasp of the skills of student government were attested to by his having been nomi- nated by the central district of the state student councils to run for the office of state president. The prospects for the election which was to be held after press time were optimistic and the Manzano delegation hoped to have Ric serve as the state president next year. As vice president of the student body Ric was also an ex-officio member of the Inner Council and served as a chairman of various council activities. He also belonged to both M club and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. A unique hobby of collecting matchbook covers is coupled with an interest in water skiing and basketball. Hoping to attend Penn State, Ric plans an electronic engineering degree. RIC THOM Junior

Senior Pam Sedillo, a petite and sparkling five-footer, has a naive and effervescent attitude which sometimes belies her quick wit and the compe- tence with which she works. Her high grade point average earned her mem- bership in National Honor Society and she has been a dependable and capable worker in many other fields as well. One of her greatest contributions to the school has been on the newspaper staff. As a junior, she was the advertising manager of the ROYAL MONARCH, and she was chosen associate editor as a senior to share the responsibility of editing the publica- tion. She was also chosen to receive a staff award for excellence for her contribution to the publication. Working on committees for such activities as Homecoming as the Prom have earned Pam the reputation of being a reliable helper. Drama has been another of Pam's interestsg she has belonged to the Drama Club for three years and to National Thespian Society for two years. Pam is a member of the newly formed International Club and has been a delegate to the Albuquerque Youth Council for two years. A science fair entrant as a sophomore, she has volunteered her study hall this year to work in the attendance office. Bowling, swimming, writing are the hobbies which Pam enjoys most. Echoing the interests of a majority of teenagers, Denny listed sports of all kinds including golf and bowling as his major hobbies and his participation in two of Manzano's varsity sports is consistent with this interest. He is also a member of M Club and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. As a senior this year, he was elected secretary-treasurer of the FCA. Denny has participated in two sports at Manzano-basketball and baseball. He has earned two varsity letters in baseball, was a part of Manzano's State Championship baseball team in 1967 and will be doing his best to help his teammates re-capture that crown this spring. A third baseman, Denny was a member of the Baron squad as a sophomore. Two years on the Baron basketball team gave Denny the experience he needed to move up to the varsity as a senior and do an outstanding job. A consistently hard competitor, Denny's quickness and aggressiveness made him one of the starting guards and one who could be counted on to spark the team. One of five juniors nominated to receive the West Point Leadership Award, Denny has served as an activities office assistant as a senior. An appointment to the Naval Academy at Annapolis is Denny's hope at this time, however, he will proba- bly go to the University of New Mexico should there not be one available. Denny plans on majoring in engineering, but he has not selected a specific field in which to study. .. e. 'Q' S 'll -w ti ' W' fsfh i , W. -, At- xt X141 I
