Vivacious and versatile is the way to describe one of the two persons being honored in Who's Who for the second year, senior Carol Traub. Her interests as an underclassman-speech, in which she won numerous awards, and belonged to the Speech Club and National Forensicg Albuquerque Youth Council, where she served as vice president as a junior and won the Most Valuable Member trophy as a sophomore, Student Council, through which she attended district and state student council workshops and conven- tions, and was a Manzano delegate to the Governors Youth Councilg the Model UN meeting held in Santa Fe, the PHAETHON staff, Manzano's literary magazineg and journalism, where she was news editor of the ROYAL MONARCH, won a staff award for excellence and three state writing awards- were only a prelude to her activities as a senior. Selected as a Girl's Stater, Carol was a member of Staters' Club and was editor of the Girls' State newspaper, Maintaining a 4. average, she was chosen for National Honor Society, belonged to International Club, continued with Speech Club and National Forensic and won more honors in speech competition, was again a delegate to the Model UN, was the New Mexico representative to the Texas Youth Conference and was runner-up in the city Elks Club Leadership competition. Since Carol plans a career in journalism after attending either Stanford or Southern Methodist University, one of her greatest responsibili- ties and honors was being editor-in-chief of the ROYAL MONARCH, She continued her active participation in Student Council as chairman of various projects, a delegate to state and district conventions, and an Exchange Day delegate. Another major responsibility for Carol, whose hobbies are playing the piano, horseback riding, photography and writing , was serving as presi- dent of the Albuquerque Youth Council CAROL TRAUB Senior BRUCE AINSWORTH Senior A fine athlete and a talented student, senior Bruce Ainsworth has con- centrated the majority of his after-school hours during his high school career on athletics. His emphasis on athletics has not interferred, however, with his studies as he maintains a high grade point average and was named to the first semester honor roll with a 4. average. One of only four seniors to have earned their third varsity letter in football this season, Bruce was a halfback on the Monarch squad and in this position was twice picked as the city's outstand- ing back of the week, In addition Bruce was chosen to play on the North All-Star football team this summer and was awarded a trophy as the most valuable senior player on the 1967-1968 football squad. Playing basketball as a sophomore, Bruce decided to concentrate his efforts on football and on baseball where he earned letters as both a sophomore and junior and will again be a mainstay on the l968 team. Playing the outfield, Bruce was a valuable member of the 1967 team which captured the New Mexico State Baseball Championship. In addition to athletic participation, Bruce has been an active member of the Manzano M Club for three years and served as vice-president as a junior and was elected president as a senior. Bruce was chosen by the Rotary Clubs of the city to be honored at a luncheon as an outstanding high school leader. Athletics dominate Bruce's hobbies as well and he enjoys all sports including hunting and fishing. Attending either UNM or Eastern New Mexico University, he is making tentative plans to take a degree in business administration.
