School sponsored activities included B O a game, a movie The Guns of Navarone , and the Sadie Hawkins Dance. Marryin' Sam provided a marriage booth for anxious lasses and reluctant lads, and fun was of the absolute essence. Twirp Week is an annual affair at Manzano and the funds raised go to support extra-curricu- 9 6 8 lar activities in thevfuture. 4 Bonnie Chavez reigns over the Sadie Hawkins Dance with his attendants, Rex Davis and Chris Martin and their dates, Cathy McConnell, June Chavez, and Cami Craig.

The art exhibit, January 15-18, which displayed the semester's creations of all art students, was enjoyed by many Manzano students and teachers. Art teacher, Miss Lynn Johnson, enjoys the interesting papier-m3che'on display during the art exhibit. Opening of the Senior Class Snack Bar Debbie Kirk receives a sterling silver charm from Mrs. Margaret Thompson for winning in the Betty Crocker Search for the Homemaker of Tomorrow. January is a month characterized by beginnings. It is most importantly the beginning of a new year, and for students it is the end of one semester and the beginning of a new one. This is the month generally regarded as the time for making a new start. However this newness soon becames routine unless something is done to refresh and re-energize. The activities program at Manzano is dedi- cated to seeing that the newness of this season does not age prematurely, and it accomplished this goal by planning such activities as parent's basketball night and, in associa- tion with Student Council, Twirp Week.
